Taylor "crashes" two home runs over the fence in win for JV

SHARPSBURG-After nearly crashing through a wall on Friday, softballs met the same fate from Katie Taylor’s bat on Monday as she had two home runs and five RBIs to lead the East Coweta Lady Indians to a 16-1 domination of the Locust Grove Lady Wildcats.

The junior varsity matchup played prior to the varsity game ended in the bottom of the third inning under the mercy rule.

The Lady Indians took the lead for good in the bottom of the first as Jaliyah Holmes and Bailee Echols reached on singles.

Taylor, who made a catch in the varsity game against Lassiter that saw her run into the left field fence, drilled her first home run over the left field fence as opposed to going through.

Ashleigh Griffin followed with a double and Kip Heygood reached on a single before Macie Wiggins followed with a two-run double.

The Lady Indians added to the lead in the bottom of the second inning as Holmes walked, stole second and advanced to third on a groundout before Taylor "crashed" her second home run of the afternoon.

Griffin followed with a single and after a single by Heygood, Wiggins recorded her third RBI of the game with a single as Griffin came home.

Benefitting from the 8-0 lead was Mollie Peacock who pitched three innings and allowed only one hit that led to the lone run for the Lady Wildcats in the top of the third inning.

The Lady Indians added eight runs in the bottom of the third inning to claim the victory as Griffin had a bases clearing triple and later scored on a single by Heygood.

An infield error allowed Heygood to score and EC to load the bases for Eliza Kuhne, Holmes and Kourtney White to secure the final RBIs of the game for the Lady Indians.

Next for the Lady Indians will be Friday at Hunter Complex against Ola (5:30) and Northgate (7:00) as part of the Georgia Dugout Club Tournament.

Lady Indians open 2018 season with three wins, streak at 39 after win over Lady Wildcats

SHARPSBURG-To date, the 2018 season has not been easy for the East Coweta Lady Indians as they begin the trek toward defending their state championship.
The season opened Friday night in Marietta needing a three-run home run by Kelley Lynch in the top of the seventh inning to give EC a 6-5 win over the Hillgrove Lady Hawks in the opener before getting a five hitter from Jaliyah Holmes to come away with a 6-1 victory over the Lassiter Lady Trojans.
Monday night's game against the Locust Grove Wildcats was not any easier for the East Coweta Lady Indians as the latter defeated the defending 5A champions 4-3 in a battle of champions.
With the win, the Lady Indians are 3-0 and have a 39-game streak as they will host the Alexander Lady Cougars Wednesday evening in the first game of the Georgia Dugout Club Tournament.
In the Monday night win, the Lady Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead as Taegan Lewellen drilled an offering from winning pitcher Aniston Wright over the left field fence for a solo home run with two outs in the top of the first inning.
However, the Lady Indians came back in the bottom of the frame as Lilly Agan singled, advanced to second on a sacrifice by Carmen Prior and took third on a passed ball before scoring the tying run on a bases loaded single by Kenadie Cooper.
The Lady Indians scored the go ahead run as Lynch scored when the Lady Wildcats shortstop dropped a ground ball as she attempted to tag a baserunner.
An insurance run gave the Lady Indians a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning as Prior reached on a two out single, stole second and came home on an infield error as Lynch collided with second baseman Kyndal Brown.
The play came at a cost for Locust Grove as Brown came out of the game with a broken arm.
The Lady Wildcats cut the margin to 3-2 with two outs in the top of the fourth inning as Layla Barren scored on an unearned run on a single by Chandler Mitchell.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, EC got the run back as Caroline Lively singled, Olivia Cook hit a sacrifice bunt that resulted in an error and after Agan sacrifice courtesy runner Katie Taylor and Cook, Prior hit a ground ball to second that allowed Taylor to score.
The Lady Wildcats were not done as they cut the margin to a single run as Mitchell scored on a two out single by Kelly Kight.

Kight's single prompted a pitching change for the Lady Indians as Wright was replaced by Holmes who ended the frame on one pitch as Bailee Richardson hit an infield pop.
In the top of the seventh inning, Holmes allowed a leadoff double to Skylar Elkins who stole third but the young hurler breezed through the rest of the frame by inducing an infield pop and a pair of strikeouts to end the game and record the save.
EC 6, Hillgrove 5
In Monday’s first game, Hillgrove scored the first run with two outs in the first inning, but EC responded in the top of the second inning as Ansley Gunter was hit by a pitch and eventually scored courtesy a pair of errors.
The Lady Indians took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third on a solo home run over the center field fence by Kenadie Cooper but the Lady Hawks took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on a pair of RBI singles.
Hillgrove added to their lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-run double but EC made their comeback in the top of the seventh.
With one out, Cooper reached on a walk and Agan reached on an infield error before Prior followed with a double to center field that brought Cooper home to cut the margin to 5-3 and Lynch followed with her heroic clout with a shot over the center field fence.
Kylie Ferguson, who took over for Wright in the sixth, struggled in the bottom of the frame as the first two batters reached base but enter Holmes who came into the game and retired the next three batters for the save.
EC 6, Lassiter 1
EC trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the third as the Lady Trojans scored an unearned run but the Lady Indians rallied in the top of the fifth inning with a pair of runs to take the lead.
Madison Lecuona walked and moved to second on a sacrifice by Taylor before scoring on a double Agan who scored the lead run on the front end of a double steal.
The Lady Trojans loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning on an intentional walk and infield single, but Holmes was unfazed as she induced a flyball to left field in which Taylor caught the ball and ran into the wall afterward.
The out began a string in which Holmes retired seven of eight batters over the balance of the game.
The Lady Indians gave Holmes a larger cushion in the top of the sixth inning as they were the recipients of an infield error, four walks and a hit batter that amounted to four runs in the frame.

Dun allows three hits in five innings, Garrett's two RBIs key Home Plate (Thompson) to win

PEACHTREE CITY-Decklan Dun allowed hits over five innings while Eli Garrett had a pair of run scoring singles Tuesday as the Home Plate Chili Dogs 15U (Thompson) defeated the Rawlings Stealth (FL) 3-2 in a WWBA Perfect Game contest at Home Plate.

The Chili Dogs will play Wednesday afternoon at Perfect Game against Canes Mountain at 2:45 while the Stealth out of the Palm Beach area of Florida will play against Team Citius at 10:30 at the same facility.

The Chili Dogs had a chance to take an early lead in the game as Chay Yeager walked and Michael Maginnis singled with one out in the top of the first inning.

However, Stealth starter Thomas Besson induced an infield fly and after a single by Christian Dyer was able to escape further trouble as he induced a groundout to end the frame.

Home Plate did take the lead in the top of the second inning as Daniel Courtney reached on an error with one out and after moving to second on a groundout, came home to score on a single to left by Garrett.

The Chili Dogs had a chance to add to the lead over the course of the next two innings but there were two outs in each frame and they were unable to get the magic hit as Besson was able to induce a ground ball back to the mound in the third and a strikeout in the fourth.

Another scoring opportunity came in the top of the fifth for HP as Bryce Hale singled to right and moved to second on a sacrifice by Sean White before Ryder Wagenknecht was hit by a pitch and Maginnis walked to load the bases.

However, Besson appeared to be getting out of a jam as he induced an infield pop but Christian Dyer came through with a single to left that brought Hale plateward for an insurance run.

Home Plate picked up a very important run with two outs in the top of the sixth inning as Judson Waters reached on an infield error and had a steal of second that led to a score as Garrett had his second RBI with a single to left field.

The 3-0 margin was enough for Dun who had a quality start for five innings as he had only one inning where he was in trouble.

Dun had surrendered singles to Carsten Finnvold and John McCormick to start the bottom of the third inning but a sacrifice bunt failed as Dun got an out at first and saw the threat end as Dylan King hit a line drive to Maginnis at third who threw the ball to second for a double play.

After a five inning outing that saw him walk two batters and record five strikeouts, Dun was lifted in the bottom of the sixth inning in favor of Jett Lovett.

Lovett had a quick sixth inning as he recorded a strikeout and induced a 4-6-3 double play after the leadoff batter reached on an infield error.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Lovett struggled as Bell singled and scored on a triple by Everett Cooper for Rawlings' first run of the game.

Lovett was able to retire the next batter on strikes and induced a groundout that cut the margin to 3-2 but getting the final out would prove challenging as the tying and winning runs reached base.

However, Lovett recovered to record the save by inducing a popfly on an 0-2 pitch that Maginnis made a circus catch to end the game. 

Eight run second inning keys Chili Dogs to victory.

PEACHTREE CITY-The Home Plate Chili Dogs (Thompson) proved to be tough hosts Monday evening as they scored eight runs in the bottom of the second inning to defeat the Indiana Prospects 12-2 in a 15U Perfect Game event at the home of the former.
The Chili Dogs, who won the game in four innings, will face Rawlings Stretch Tuesday afternoon at 2:45 in another game of the wooden bat tournament.
Indiana scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning as JT Mutchner singled and eventually scored on a one out single by Michael Curtis but Home Plate came back to tie the game in the bottom of the frame.
Ryder Wagenknecht, Chay Yeager and Sean White led off with walks to load the bases and after a strikeout, Braxton Roop hit a flyball to center field that scored Wagennecht with the tying run.
The Prospects came back in the top of the second inning to reclaim the lead as Logan Drow scored on a two out single to right by Case Lautenschlager but the lead would not last long as the Chili Dogs rallied.
Daniel Courtney reached on a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and after an infield single by Conner Faulkner, Quinlan Wiley laid a perfect bunt down the third base line allowing both runners to score as the ball was thrown away.
Wiley moved to third on the throwing error and eventually gave the Chili Dogs a 5-2 lead on a single by Elijah Jones.
Jones eventually stole second an moved to third on a wild pitch before Eli Garrett and Wagenknecht reached on walks that loaded the bases and created a pitching change for the Prospects.
Chay Yeager greeted the new pitcher with a two-run double and the lead was 7-2 with Wagenknecht advancing to third on the play.
After a sacrifice fly by Michael Maginnis scored Wagenknecht, the Chili Dogs finsihed the scoring in the frame as Yeager scored on a double by starting pitcher David White.
In the top of the third inning, the Prospects loaded the bases with two outs, but White was able to thwart any rally by the guests from the Hoosier state by recording a strikeout.
The Chili Dogs went scoreless in the bottom of the third inning and made a pitching change in the top of the fourth inning as White was replaced by Garrison Pierce.
In his three-inning stint, White allowed three hits, walked three while retiring four by strikeout.
Pierce began the fourth inning in trouble as he faced a bases loaded sitiation with one out but a strikeout and flyball to left field left the runners stranded and kept the score at 9-2.
In the bottom of the fourth, HP had designs on ending the game early as singles by Wagenknecht, Yeager and Maginnis as well as a pair of errors led to a pair of runs and a two out single by Jett Lovett led to the final run of the game.
Wagenknecht led HP with three runs while Yeager and Faulkner each had a pair of hits in the game.

Ballard dominates Indians on one-hitter in 3-0 Chili Dogs win

PEACHTREE CITY- Pitching was the order of the day for the Home Plate Chili Dogs Wednesday afternoon as Bryce Ballard allowed one hit over seven innings in a 3-0 shutout over the Midland (Ohio) Indians in a 16U Perfect Game contest at the Home Plate facility.

The game was scoreless in the first three innings of play before Home Plate scored all of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Jonathan Williams led off the frame by getting hit by a pitch, then stole two bases before coming home as the throw went into left field when he stole third base.

Williams, who is among several on the Chili Dogs who participates in the athletic program at East Coweta High, had three stolen bases and walked twice in the game.

Ballard aided his own cause by reaching on a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Keegan Rich.

A single by JJ Freed loaded the bases for Sean White who lined a shot to left field and another run scored for the Chili Dogs.

The Chili Dogs reloaded the bases as Hunter Lawson reached on a single and Jacob Howell reached on a walk that forced Freed to come home with the final run of the game and prompted a pitching change by the Indians.

Grant Vinson, who pitched effectively in the first three innings before the fateful fourth, was replaced by Colton Sandhas on the mound for Midland and recorded a strikeout to end the frame but the damage was done.

Ballard finished the game in the top of the seventh inning with very little difficulty as he induced three groundouts.

In hurling the complete game, Ballard only surrendered an infield single while walking one and recording five strikeouts while walking twice while at the plate and recording a single.

Peyton Sower had the fourth hit of the game for the Chili Dogs as they reached base with six walks and two batters reaching base after being hit by a pitch.

PEACHTREE CITY-Keegan Rich provided the offense Tuesday afternoon while Dylan Garner dominated on the mound for the Home Plate Chili Dogs in a 16U Perfect Game contest against Power Baseball Blue.

Rich, a two sport athlete at East Coweta High School, went 4-for-4 with two home runs and drove home all of the runs in the game while Garner allowed three hits and recorded nine strikeouts in a 5-0 victory at the Home Plate facility.

The Chili Dogs will play against the Midland (Cincinnati, OH) Indians Wednesday afternoon at 12:45 in a game against before preparing for a tournament late in the month.

Early in the game, the story was Garner who held the Winter Garden, FL team off the bases and off the scoreboard including a fifth inning situation that saw two runners on base with outs before Garner recorded the final out of the frame.

While Garner was holding the Blue at bay, the Chili Dogs attempted to get him some run support after one out in the top of the third inning as Jacob Howell was hit by a pitch and Christian Dyer followed with a single to left field.

However, the scoring chance faded as a pair of force plays at third saved Power starter W. Luttfring from allowing any runs.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Chili Dogs gave Garner all the run support that he needed as Rich drilled the first offering from Luttfring over the right field fence for a solo home run

After four innings, Luttfring was replaced after allowing four hits, one run and recording three strikeouts in favor of W. Adlam who faced a bases loaded situation in the top of the fifth inning before getting out of trouble.

However, Adlam could not escape trouble in the top of the sixth inning as JJ Freed led off with a single and advanced as Hunter Lawson reached base on an errant sacrifice attempt.

Freed, who also plies his athletic craft at East Coweta High School on the football and baseball fields, was 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.

That left matters to Rich who recorded his third hit of the afternoon with a shot over the right center field fence for a three-run home run and a 4-0 Home Plate lead.

The Chili Dogs added one more run in the top of the seventh inning as Peyton Sower reached on a one out walk and scored on a single to center field by Rich.

That was enough of a cushion for Garner who opened the bottom of the seventh inning by surrendering a leadoff triple to Brett Kelley before inducing a flyball and strikeout (his ninth of the game) before leaving the game due to a pitch count rule.

He was replaced on the mound by Elijah Guilliams who faced one batter as Dylan Moore grounded out to Bryce Ballard at second base to end the game.

Underhill and Player record five hits score five runs as EC clinches second place with 10-0 win

SMYRNA-Landon Underhill and Tony Player combined to go 5-for-7 at the plate and score five runs Wednesday to lead the East Coweta Indians to a 10-0 win over the Campbell Spartans in a Region 2-AAAAAAA matchup at Latannzi Field.
The five inning win improved the Indians' overall record to 15-9 on the season and a 10-2 record in region play that clinched second place.

The Indians began scoring in the top of the first inning as Player singled to start the contest, advanced to second on a sacrifice by Bailey Psathas and after a pair of wild pitches was able to score the game's first run.
Ryan Dyal reached on a one out walk and after courtesy runner Trevor Crowdis stole second and advanced to third on a groundout before scoring the first of two runs in the game as Jeff Sangster lined an RBI single to right field.
In the top of the second inning EC added to the lead as Underhill singled, Player reached on a one out single and after a line drive to third by Psathas, Dyal reached on a walk that loaded the bases for Kelley.
Kelley responded with a shot over the left fielder's head that resulted in a bases clearing triple and after the throw from left field got away from the third baseman, Kelley came home and the lead was 6-0.
The Indians kept the foot on the gas in the top of the third as they added three more runs as Underhill and Brayden Carey had RBI singles while the other run scored on a throwing play that allowed Carey to reach second.

After being held scoreless in the top of the fourth, the final run of the game for the Indians came in the top of the fifth inning as Underhill singled again and eventually came on a passed ball.
Austin Bunn, who allowed one hit in six innings against Northgate last Friday, started and pitched the first two innings allowing a hit and a walk while recording a strikeout.
Peyton Ramey took over in the bottom of the third and walked two batters while striking out one in his two inning stint. 

Bryan Crow pitched in the bottom of the fifth inning allowing two walks with two outs in the frame.
The Indians will be home Thursday evening at 5:30 when they will face the Douglas County Tigers who will enter the game with a record of 11-8-1 after a 7-6 loss to fellow Region 5-AAAAAA opponent Creekside.
The Tigers are currently fifth in their region after the loss to the Seminoles who scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
