Lady Indians score seven runs in the fifth in strange victory as Lynch has 10K in one-hittter and Duffeynator goes yard

SHARPSBURG-Mother Nature has not been kind to the East Coweta Lady Indians so far in the 2018 season.
On August 18, rain and severe lightning canceled a portion of the Georgia Dugout Club Tournament on the EC field including a matchup with North Paulding.
Two days later, games with Hampton and Westlake were postponed causintg the Lady Indians braintrust to reschedule games.
Wednesday evening, Mother Nature visited Coweta County again as thunder and lightning delayed the varsity contest between the Lady Indians and the Whitewater Lady Wildcats..
After 30 minutes, the game was able to get underway until lightning invaded the area with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The game was stopped and after a brief discussion was called as the Lady Wildcats coaching staff elected to not wait to resume and the game was entered as a 7-0 forfeit victory for the Lady Indians.
The win improved the overall record to 10-0 as the Lady Indians won their 46th straight game.
While the final goes official as a 7-0 win, the statistics count as the Lady Indians assumed a 7-1 lead when the lightning arrived.
In the action on the field, Kelley Lynch was following her sterling performance from Monday as she fired a perfect game in a 6-0 win over Hampton.
Dreams of another perfect game were dashed immediately as Whitewater leadoff batter Kyee Ricks reached on a walk and stole two bases.
However, Ricks was stranded at third as Lynch recorded a pair of strikeouts and induced a weak pop back to the pitching rubber.
Over the next couple of innings Lynch was in control with more strikeouts and a pair of groundouts including one hit back to her in the circle.
The only hit she would surrender was a bunt on the infield that stopped rolling by Lily Griffith to open the top of the fourth inning.
Griffith would steal second and come around to score on a throwing error and for the first time 12 innings a run was scored against Lynch despite the tally being unearned.
Undaunted, Lynch recorded a popup and two strikeouts to end the frame and had a very quick fifth inning with two strikeouts and an attempted bunt that catcher Caroline Lively picked up and threw a strike to Madison Lecuona who was covering first base on the play.
In five innings, Lynch had 10 strikeouts with a pair of assists and a putout as she was about to go to 2-0 on the season.after the fateful bottom of the fifth inning.
Lilly Agan led off with a single , stole second and came home on a double by Carmen Prior to tie the game at 1-1.
Lynch reached first on an intentional walk and Kenadie Cooper followed with a sacrifice bunt that became an error as she and the ball arrived at first at the same time with the latter going into right field.
Prior scored on the play to give EC the lead and courtesy runner Hanna Miller was sent to third on the play while Cooper went to second on the play.
Miller and Cooper would eventually score on a double by Ansley Gunter and after Katie Taylor reached on a walk, Ansley Duffey would provide the most exciting moment of the night after a pitching change was made.
Duffey, who flirted with a home run in the bottom of the second inning, responded after the pitching change by hitting a 1-2 offering over the left center field fence for a three run home run and the lead was 7-1.
The home run was the first varsity shot for Duffey who was 2-for-3 in the game.
Caison Byars followed with a pinch hit single but was erased on a line drive double play than Agan came to the play for the second time in the frame.
With a count of 2-0, play was stopped and after a few contentious moments, the game was called and the Lady Indians declared the winner by forfeit.
Next for the Lady Indians is a trip to Cobb County to face the Campbell Lady Spartans on Wednesday September 5 in a Region 2-AAAAAAA contest.

Three-hitter for Fergy as EC defeats Whitewater in JV, unbeaten streak at 26

Kylie Ferguson was in control Wednesday as she allowed thre hits and
recorded five strikeouts in the 3-1 win for the East Coweta JV. The Lady
Indians improved to 9-0 and have an unbeaten streak of 26 games.

SHARPSBURG-Katie Taylor did her best Forrest Gump imitation with an inside-the-park home run Wednesday evening while Kylie Ferguson allowed three hits as the East Coweta Lady Indians defeated the Whitewater Lady Wildcats 3-1 in junior varsity play.
The win improved the overall mark at 10-0 and extended the unbeaten streak to 26 games as they prepare to face the Newnan Lady Cougars on the road Thursday.
Whitewater took a 1-0 lead with one out in the bottom of the first inning as Jillian Williams singled, stole second  and advanced to third on a single by starting pitcher Mikayala Coffield before scoring when Raniya Cannady grounded out.
After being denied a chance to tie the game in the second, EC was able to accomplish the feat in the third as Taylor drilled a shot to the left field fence and raced around the bases for her home run that tied the game at 1-1.
Without stop signs in the stands, Taylor managed to avoid running through the backstop as she touched home plate.
The Lady Indians took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Bailee Echols came of the bench and drilled to right center field for a triple and came home when Eliza Kuhne grounded out to third base.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Indians scored an insurance run as Jaliyah Holmes was hit by a pitch after the first out of the frame.
Holmes, who had two hits in the game, stole second and advanced to third after a groundout before coming home on a single by Macie Wiggins.
Meanwhile, Ferguson was in control on the pitching rubber allowing only three baserunners after the first inning as she recorded five strikeouts while not walking a batter.

White, Wiggins hit bases claearing doubles to support two hitter by Peacock

SHARPSBURG-The Tuesday night junior varsity encounter between the East Coweta Lady Indians and McIntosh Lady Chiefs was not the prettiest but the former will take the final result.

Bases clearing doubles by Kourtney White and Macie Wiggins helped lead the way to a 12-2 five inning victory over the Lady Chiefs to go 8-0 and extend their own unbeaten streak to 25 games.

One streak that did get snapped was hits allowed by pitchers in the EC program as Lizzy Lemos of McIntosh singled to snap a streak of hitless innings recorded by the Lady Indians program that ended at 17 1/3 innings.

Mollie Peacock allowed two hits and recorded five strikeouts
in the Lady Indians' 12-2 five inning victory. 

Lemos eventually moved around the bases on a groundout and an infield error that led to an unearned run in the top of the first inning.

The Lady Indians took the lead in the bottom of the third inning as Jaliyah Holmes reached on a one out bunt single and Bailee Echols followed with both runners advancing on a throwing error.

EC made McIntosh pay for the error as Wiggins had a two out double that scored both baserunners.

However, the Lady Chiefs tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth as E.R. Antoni reached on an infield error and starting pitcher Ansley Tucker followed by reaching on a walk.

After a wild pitch, Antoni was able to score an unearned run as Carmella Niedzwicki grounded out to second.

In the bottom of the frame, the Lady Indians reclaimed the lead as they scored four runs to assume a 6-2 lead.

With one out, Kaliyah Matthews reached on a double and Emma Elrod and Eliza Kuhne followed with consecutive singles that allowed Matthews to score.

Holmes reached on a walk to load the bases and after the second out was recorded White followed with her double that cleared the bases.

The Lady Indians pulled away from the Lady Chiefs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Kip Heggood reached on a two base error to open the frame.

Olivia Cook followed with a single and Matthews followed with a double that scored Heggood.

Elrod rached on an error and Kuhne on a fielder’s choice as Matthews was tagged out at third ten reached on a bunt single that loaded the bases.

After a strikeout, White was hit by a pitch that scored Elrod and Wiggins coming to the plate.

Wiggins came through as she drilled a shot into right center field and all three runners crossed the plate to end the game.

Mollie Peacock was the beneficiary of the run support with a five inning performance that saw her allow two hits and record five strikeouts.

Next game Wednesday against the Whitewater Lady Wildcats at home at 5:00 with the varsity to meet afterward.

The two teams met last Thursday at Fayetteville with EC claiming a 13-0 win as Jaliyah Holmes and Peacock combined on a no-hitter.

A perfect evening for the East Coweta Lady Indians as Kelley Lynch pitched ...
a perfect game as the Lady Indians were 6-0 winners over Hampton on Monday.
Lynch retired 18 batters by strikeout and had an assist in one of the non-strikeouts.
The Lady Indians are 9-0 and have won 45 in a row.

SHARPSBURG-Monday night was the Kelley Lynch show as she retired all 21 batters she faced with strikeouts as the East Coweta Lady Indians defeated the Hampton Lady Hornets 6-0 in a non-region softball matchup.
The win improved the seasonal record to 9-0 and recorded their 45th in a row with a varsity game against Whitewater at home on Wednesday.
After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Indians gave Lynch the scoring margin she needed as they scored three times in the bottom of the second inning.
Kenadie Cooper reached on a leadoff single, stole second and scored on a single to right by Ansley Gunter.
Caison Byars reached on a walk and after a force play at third base, a wild pitch advanced her and courtesy runner Hanna Miller one base.
Both runners would come home as Ashleigh Griffin lined a single to right field and the lead was 3-0.
Meanwhile, Lynch was in complete control in her first start since a two-inning outing on August 17 against Northgate as she retired the first seven batters on strikeouts with six via the swinging route
After a pop to Madison Lecuona at third and a ground ball to Katie Taylor at second, Lynch retired 10 consecutive strikeouts with eight swinging.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lady Indians added three more runs to give a bigger cushion.
Lilly Agan led off the frame with a double to left and advanced to third when a ground ball hit by Carmen Prior was mishandled at second base.
After Prior stole second, Lynch aided her own cause when lined a two run single to left field.
Courtesy runner Krys Odum advanced to second base on a ground ball to shortstop and came home when Gunter lined a shot over the left fielder's head for an RBI triple.
Gunter and Cooper each collected two hits in three at bats for
the win.
The 6-0 lead was more than enough for Lynch who recorded five strikeouts in the final two frames and was involved in the only non-strikeout as ball was hit back to her in the top of the seventh inning.
Of the 21 batters faced, Lynch recorded 11 first pitch strikes and had only two three-ball counts in tossing the gem.
NOTE:  The Junior Varsity will look to extend their unbeaten streak Tuesday with a game against McIntosh at 5:00.

Five RBIs for Taylor, Holmes, Peacock no-hit Whitewater in 10-0 EC win

FAYETTEVILLE-After dominating the Newnan Lady Cougars Monday night, the East Coweta Lady Indians took care of business Tuesday as Katie Taylor had five RBIs while Jaliyah Holmes and Mollie Peacock combined on a no-hitter in a 13-0 junior varsity win.

There she goes again! Jaliyah Holmes had another stellar
outing Thursday as she tossed four no-hit frames at
Whitewater JV in a 13-0 win. Holmes recorded nine strikeouts.

The game was called after five innings under the mercy rule as the Lady Indians JV improved to 7-0 on the season.
The Lady Indians assumed control early as Holmes walked to open the game and stole second before coming home on a triple by Bailee Echols who drilled a shot to left center field for a triple and scored her own run as Taylor doubled to center field.
 After Holmes breezed through the bottom of the first inning, EC added to the lead in the top of the second inning as Kip Heggood was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice by Emma Elrod before scoring as a two out single by Echols was mishandled.
After being retired in order in the top of the third inning, the Lady Indians broke the game open in the top of the fourth as the scored five runs to take an 8-0 lead.
With one out, Elrod and Eliza Kuhne reached on walks and after the second out of the frame Echols and Taylor reached on consecutive walks to bring home a run.
Macie Wiggins and Kourtney White followed with run scoring doubles and a close game became anything but that as Holmes was retiring batters with regularity.
In the top of the fifth inning, EC was able to put the game farther away as they added five more runs for the final margin.
With one out, Kylie Ferguson reached on a walk and Elrod reached on an infield error whith the former scoring on a single to left by Kuhne.

Mollie Peacock made quick work of the Lady Wildcats
by retiring the side in order in the bottom of the fifth inning
with a pair of strikeouts to preserve the no-hitter.

An error allowed Ava Brooks Strickland to score which increased the lead to 10-0 then Taylor, who drilled two in a JV game last week against Locust Grove, hit a shot over the left field fence for a three-run home run.
Meanwhile, Holmes demonstrated the pitching wares that have shown her dominating style this year on the varsity squad with a pair of strikeouts to start the bottom of the first inning and getting a pair in each of the next two inning before recording three of her nine in the bottom of the fourth.
Peacock took over in the top of the fifth inning and she managed to make quick work of Whitewater as she recorded a strikeout, a groundout back to the pitching rubber and finishing the game with a swinging strikeout.
The Lady Indians will play again next Tuesday in a game at home against the McIntosh Lady Chiefs.

Streak increases to 43 while Mother Nature gets in the way

Mother Nature has once again shown that she does not like sports as proven over the last 48 hours in Coweta County.

Saturday, the Ola Mustangs and Cairo Syrupmakers were competing in the third game of the Georgia Dugout Club Tournament at East Coweta when the heavens opened in the third inning with Ola leading 3-2.

During the delay, lightning paid a visit and finally the game and the following contest between the Lady Indians were canceled as power went off in the Sharpsburg area.

After a dry Sunday, Monday came and as expected, Mother Nature visited Coweta County again and rained out the contest between the Lady Indians and the Hampton Lady Hornets.

That contest will be rescheduled for Wednesday after the 4:30 junior varsity game between EC and Newnan is played.

Before the non-region home game, the Lady Indians will begin Region 2-7AAAAAAA play Tuesday in Fulton County against the Westlake Lady Lions who come into the game with a record.

Meanwhile, the Lady Indians won three games over the weekend to improve to 7-0 and carry a 43-game winning streak into the game with the Lady Lions.

EC 2, Columbus 1

The game against the blue devils was the closest the Lady Indians came to suffering a defeat as the visitors from Muscogee County took a 1-0 lead in the first that held until the middle of the game.

For several innings, the Lady Indians had trouble against Blue Devil starter Carlie Neal until the bottom of the third inning as Lilly Agan reached on a one out triple and scored when Carmen Prior grounded out to Neal who threw to first.

Columbus had a chance to win the game in the top of the eighth inning as they had runners on base with one out but Agan caught a flyball in deep center field and threw a strike that kept a runner at third base and kept the Blue devils off of the scoreboard.

With time having expired and two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, Prior reached on a swinging bunt, stole second base and came home when Kelley Lynch singled to right center field.

Aniston Wright pitched a quality start with 5.1 innings allowing hits and three strikeouts while Jaliyah Holmes came into the game with a quality relief appearance and was the winning pitcher (3-0).

EC 3, Cairo 1

The Lady Indians took the lead in the bottom of the first as Agan singled and eventually scored on a groundout by Prior and the other run in the frame came as Lynch followed with a double and scored on a single by Ansley Gunter.

EC took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Byars reached on a two base error and scored on an infield error.

Cairo scored a run in the top of third inning but they were never a big threat to Wright and Holmes who combined on a three hit, six strikeout performance.

EC 18, Northgate 0

The margin of victory was the largest for the Lady Indians over their cross county rival since last year’s 10-0 win at Northgate in September.

The Lady Indians scored six runs in the top of the first inning to take the lead with the highlight of the frame provided by Caroline Lively who belted her first varsity home run over the left field fence with two runners on base.

EC added two runs in the second and scored three in the third as Caison Byars had a run scoring double and scored seven runs in the fourth inning.

Byars and Ashleigh Griffin, who had three hits apiece, delivered RBIs while Hanna Miller had two hard hits in the frame.

Lynch made her first start of the season and provided two innings of work before she was replaced by Holmes who tossed the final two innings.

Prior, Holmes lead EC to 40th straight win.

SHARPSBURG-Carmen Prior had a bases clearing double while Jaliyah Homes tossed two-hitter Wednesday evening as the East Coweta Lady Indians defeated the Alexander Lady Cougars 6-1 in the first day of the Georgia Dugout Club Tournament.

The win improved the overall record to 4-0 this season and was the 40^th overall and ended after five innings under a 90 minute time limit.

Alexander (0-2) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Taylor Middlebrook singled, stole second and scored on a one out single by Georgia Blair.

The Lady Indians tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning as Prior led off the frame with a single to center, moved to second on a groundout and scored on a double to left field by Kenadie Cooper.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Lady Indians took the lead as Hanna Miller lined a single to center field and moved ot second on a wild pitch.

Ashleigh Griffin and Lilly Agan reached on consecutive one out walks before Prior came to the plate against Lady Cougar pitcher Brooke Strickland.

On the first offering from Strickland, Prior responded by lining a shot into right center field bringing all three Lady Indians plateward and they had a 4-1 lead.

The scoring was not complete as Kelley Lynch and Ansley Gunter followed with singles that scored Prior and Gunter eventually finished the scoring on a single by Katie Taylor.

Prior, Lynch, Cooper and Miller each collected two hits in the game.

The run support was enough for Holmes who continues to shine on the rubber in her freshman season.

Holmes, who won her second game to go along with two saves, retired seven batters in a row before hitting a batter and walking another in the bottom of the fourth inning.

After a coaching visit, Holmes recovered as she induced a 5-3 double play and an infield pop to end the frame and retired the side in order in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game.

The tournament will resume on Friday with EC facing the Northgate Lady Vikings at 5:00 and the Cairo Syrupmakers at 6:45.

The Lady Vikings will face McIntosh in the nightcap.

The JV will host their tournament Friday with games against Ola (5:30) and Northgate (7:00) at Hunter Complex and on Saturday against Alexander (10:00) and Whitewater (12:00).
