Indians sweep Bulldogs in Region 3-AAAAAA doubleheader

SHARPSBURG-Less than 24 hours after suffering their first loss of the season, the East Coweta Indians recovered Tuesday night as they swept a pair of Region 3-AAAAAA games from the Tri-Cities Bulldogs by identical 10-0 scores.
The doubleheader, necessitated by impending rains in the area later in the week, started approximately 45 minutes late as the Tri-Cities bus was stuck on Interstate 85 while an accident was being cleared by authorities.
Despite the delay, game one starter Zack McCurry was off and running as he retired the first three batters on strikeouts.
After being retired in order in the bottom of the first inning, the Indians took the lead in the bottom of the second inning as Jonathan Banks reached on a one out walk, advanced to second when Geremy Walton grounded out to the pitcher and came around to score on a single to left by Matthew Meyer.
In the bottom of the third the Indians added a run to its lead as Cameron Smith reached on a leadoff double and moved to third on a flyball to right before coming home on a sacrifice fly hit by Cole Antmann.
The Indians added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Walton walked and Meyer followed with an RBI double.
Meyer moved to second on a sacrifice by Blake Lorow and Travis Williams followed by reaching on a walk and stealing second base for Tim Manning who hit a single to left that scored two runs and gave the Indians a 5-0 lead.
Bryce Gemmel opened the bottom of the fifth inning in style for the Indians as he lined a triple to right field and came home on a single to left by Antmann.
With Banks at the plate, Antmann stole second and waltzed home on a double by Banks who would give EC a an 8-0 lead after a single by Meyer.
The lead was more than enough for McCurry who tossed a no-hitter in the six-inning contest and in typical fashion recorded seven strikeouts despite walking a batter and hitting two.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the game would eventually come to a close after one out as Jordan Lewis was hit by a pitch and Stephan Cruver reached on an infield error for Antmann and Banks who had  consecutive RBI singles.
After a break for burgers and hot dogs, the two teams did battle in the nightcap and Austin Bellamy was off to another solid pitching performance as he allowed three hits in five innings of play with nine strikeouts to his credit.
The Indians got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning courtesy of a pair of errors by the Bulldogs and sending nine batters to the plate.
Williams received an RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded while Manning followed with a two-run double.
Two more runs came home as both Williams and Manning scored as a result of wild pitches.
In the bottom of the third, the Indians added a single run to the tally as Banks reached on a leadoff walk, advanced to third on a double by Walton before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Meyer.
An unearned run came home in the bottom of the fourth inning then three consecutive singles and an error in the bottom of the fifth resulted in three runs and an end to the game.
For the evening, Meyer and Banks were the leaders at the plate as Meyer was 4-for-5 in the doubleheader with three runs scored three RBIs and a stolen base while Banks was also 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs.
