SHARPSBURG-Payton Roberson helped key a five-run third inning with a home run while Jada Savage tossed a no-hitter as the East Coweta Lady Indians defeated the Northgate Lady Vikings 8-0 in a five-inning game played Monday night.
The Lady Indians improved to 19-3 on the season as they face Heard County in Franklin Tuesday evening while the Lady Vikings fell to 18-6 with a Region 3-5A contest at Lovejoy tonight.
Roberson accounted for the first run of the evening for EC as she reached on a one out single and after Savage reached on a walk, Addie Joiner followed with an RBI single.
The Lady Indians took a 2-0 lead in the frame as Keyleigh Gardner, who was running for Savage, was able to score on a sacrifice fly by Gabi Gopie.
In the bottom of the third inning, Payton Wilson opened by reaching on a single to set the stage for Roberson who drilled a 3-2 offering over the center field fence for a home run and a 4-0 lead that prompted a pitching change by the Lady Vikings.
After the pitching change, Savage and Joiner reached on consecutive singles and Gopie reached on a walk that loaded the bases.
A groundout by Izzy Kelleher allowed Gardner to score and give the Lady Indians a 5-0 lead and a sacrifice fly to left field by Avery Batten followed.
The final run of the inning came when Addy Howell delivered a single to right that scored Gopie.
The 7-0 lead was more than enough for Savage who had another solid effort as she retired the first 14 batters of the game before Savannah Chitnis reached on an infield error and Peyton Deraney reached on a walk.
Chitnis and Deraney were the only baserunners as a fielder's choice ended the frame.
Savage recorded seven strikeouts in the game.
The game ending run came in the bottom of the fifth inning as Joiner reached on an infield error and eventually courtesy runner Kaelyn Bowen scored on a one out single by Batten.
Roberson and Joiner each recorded two hits while Roberson, Gardner and Bowen each scored twice in the contest.
