EC Middle School best in CCMSAL football after win over Madras

Indians finish season with perfect record in championship game


SHARPSBURG-After finishing last season as the runnerup in last year's Coweta County Middle School Athletic League championship football game, the East Coweta Indians struck gold as Chris Moore rushed for 125 yards and scored twice Tuesday night to lead the Indians to a 25-12 win over the Madras Eagles.
The game, played at Garland Shoemake Stadium, resulted in a perfect season for the Indians.
The Eagles, seeded second in the CCMSAL, scored first as quarterback Jake Barberio connected with Mason Bervaldi on 40-yard pass play along the left sideline for a touchdown with 3:02 remaining in the first period.
East Coweta's Chris Moore rushed for 125 yards and scored twice in the game. A third touchdown was called back during the game after a flag was thrown.
However, the Indians answered on the next position as Jayland Rivers caught a pass from quarterback Corey Bridges and the former was able to get away from the Eagles defense for a 72-yard touchdown with 90 seconds remaining and after a successful extra point attempt the Indians had a 7-6 lead.
The one-point lead held through the second period and halftime as the two teams were unable to get past the 30-yard line of the other on occasion but he Indians were able to get on the board as the third period opened.
Opening the second half from their own 42, the Indians utilized four rushing plays to score as Moore raced past the Eagles' defense for a 30-yard run to the end zone with 6:30 remaining.
The Indians didn't have to wait long to reclaim possession as Austin Bunn intercepted a pass at the Eagles' 27 with 5:54 remaining.
After a two-yard run on the first play, Moore took the handoff and raced 25 yards for a touchdown with 5:13 remaining in the period to give the Indians a 19-6 lead after a missed extra point attempt.
The Eagles drew closer in the fourth period after recovering a fumble at midfield in the early stages of the fourth period as a 28-yard pass from Barberio to Jake Queen started a three-play series that ended Toby Potter scored ona 28-yard run with 6:50 remaining.
However, the two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful and the score was 19-12.
Barberio accounted for 160 yards of total offense for Madras.
The final tally occured on the next possession as the Indians took over at their own 47 and after runs by Moore and Raklyan Moss, Marshay Walker closed the scoring with a 15-yard run with 4:47 remaining.

Reid accounts for three touchdowns in EC homecoming win over Pebblebrook

Christian Reid made the most of his start at quarterback Friday night at Garland Shoemake Stadium by rushing for two touchdowns and passing for another as the East Coweta Indians defeated the Pebblebrook Falcons 34-7.
The homecoming victory improved the Indians' overall record to  6-1 and remained in a three way tie for second in Region 3-AAAAAA with a 3-1 mark while the Falcons fell to  3-4, 1-3 in the region.
The Indians took the lead on the opening series of the game as they went on an eight-play 62-yard drive that ended when Carlos Ford bolted through the right side of the EC line for a 32-yard run and score with 8:22 remaining.
Ford eventually finished the game with 62 yards on nine carries.
Pebblebrook had a chance to tie the game on their second series after thwarting an EC fake punt at the 38 of the latter.
The falcons opened with a 24-yard run by Quantavious Mitchell and three plays later found themselves at the one yard line as Jacobe Burke raced 14 yards on a quarterback keeper.
However, the drive came to an end as a Falcons fumble rolled into the end zone and the Indians' Reggie Jones came up with the loose ball with 2:42 left in the quarter.
The Indians took the 7-0 lead into the second quarter and added to the lead as a 15-yard penalty against the Falcons and four straight runs by Calvin Kirby led to a two-yard touchdown run with 5:36 remaining.
After a three-and-out by the Falcons, the Indians took over at their own 47 with 3:49 remaining and went on a nine-play drive that saw Reid, who was playing in place of injured starter Wil LaGuradia, run three times including an 11-yard keeper to the right side of the end zone with a minute remaining.
The extra point attempt failed and EC eventually took a 20-0 lead to the locker room as Pebblebrook was unable to respond.
Reid accounted for the next two scores by the Indians as he scored on 13-yard keeper with two minutes remaining in the third quarter and connected with Nick Clarke on an eight-yard pass 30 seconds into the final quarter.
The Falcons averted a shutout with a touchdown in the last five minutesof the game.
Next on the East Coweta agenda will be a trip to Douglasville with a region game against the Dougas County Tigers.
