Miller performs baptism on softball, Vaughn hurls two-hitter in EC win

Image result for softball playerMcDONOUGH-Hanna Miller was baptized at church on Sunday but on Monday the freshman administered the rites of baptism to a softball with a home run that supported a two-hitter by Rachel Vaughn as the East Coweta Lady Indians defeated the Union Grove Lady Wolverines 8-0 in a non-region softball game.
The six inning win improved the Lady Indians' overall record to 8-2 as they began a series of four games in as many days with a Region 2-AAAAAAA game at home against the Pebblebrook Lady Falcons.
The Lady Wolverines appeared to be the aggressor in the bottom of the first inning as they had two rinners on base with one out but the threat disappeared quickly as Vaughn induced a 6-4-3 double play that ended the inning.
The game would remain scoreless until the top of third inning as Caroline Lively led off for EC with a double and courtesy runner AJ Estrada scored the first run of the game from third when a popfly was caught by the second baseman for Union Grove.
After the first out of the top of the fourth inning, the Lady Indians added to the lead as Vaughn was hit by a pitch and Aniston Wright reached on a single before Miller's blast over the left field fence for a three-run home run.
The Lady Indians aded to the lead in the top of the sixth inning as eight batters went to the plate and four came home.
Wright led off with a single, Miller walked and Carmen Prior reached on a bunt to load the basis for Lively who was hit by a pitch that brought pinch runner Kris Odum plateward.
LuLu Warren followed with a two-run single to give EC a 7-0 lead then Olivia Davis drilled a shot into left center field and Warren raced around the bases for the final run of the game.
Meanwhile, Vaughn had one of her more dominating outings on the pitching rubber of the season as she retired nine batters in a row early in the game and sent the final seven batters back to the dugout to end the game.

Union Grove 6, East Coweta 5 (Junior Varsity)

The EC infield also had a clean game as they didn't commit any errors with Wright recording 11 putouts at first base.
Meanwhile, the junior varsity had a difficult time overcoming five errors in a 6-5 loss to the Lady Wolverines earlier in the day.
The loss dropped the JV Lady Indians to 5-2-1 on the season.
The Lady Wolverines scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to take the initial lead of the contest but the Lady Indians came back in the top of the third with a run to tie the game at 1-1 as Ashleigh Campbell reached on an error and came home on a wild pitch.
However, Union Grove responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to reclaim the lead (3-1) before the Lady Indians scored a run in the top of the fourth inning as Ashleigh Griffin reached on a two out walk and eventually scored on single by Campbell.
The Lady Indians scored twice in the top of the fifth inning as Madison Lecouna singled and stole second before scoring on a wild pitch and Kenadie Cooper reached on a two-out walk before eventually giving the Lady Indians a 4-3 lead when she scored on a double by Caison Byars.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Lady Indians scored what was thought to be an insurance run as Campbell reached on a two out double and scoring on a single by Kyle Ferguson, but a pair of singles and an infield error resulted in three runs and a lead for the Lady Wolverines.
The Lady Indians were unable to rally in the top of the seventh.
Campbell and Byars each collected two hits and an RBI in the game.
