Duffel three hit night keys EC win

SHARPSBURG-Madison Duffel isn't a Ramblin' Wreck yet but Wednesday night she provided a wrecking ball with three hits, a walk and a pair of RBIs to lead the East Coweta Lady Indians to a 6-0 win over the Northgate Lady Vikings.
The win improves the EC overall mark to 22-2 while Northgate fell to 12-10 on the season.
The first three innings of the game was a pitching duel between Jada Savage of East Coweta and Jackie Burns of Northgate as both were locked into a scoreless tie.
The Lady Indians broke open the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning when Riley Ratzlaff singled and Maggie Stubbs reached on a walk.

and had a two-run single in the fourth inning.

Duffel, a recent Georgia Tech committee, broke the scoreless when she hit a 2-2 offering from Burns into left field that allowed Ratzlaff and Stubbs to come home.
The Lady Indians were able to put the game away in the bottom of the sixth inning against Burns as 10 batters went to the plate with four coming home.
Ratzlaff led off by reaching on a walk and after advancing to second on a groundout was able to score on single to right field by Kate Miller.
Duffel followed with her third hit of the game with a single and a walk to Payton Roberson loaded the bases and prompted a pitching change as Burns was replaced by Savannah Chitnis.

Chitnis walked Addie Joyner to force home a run and Madisyn Weathers followed with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Duffel while consecutive walks to Mallory Lumpkins and Savage accounted for the final run of the evening.
Meanwhile, Savage was rolling along with a one-hitter with solid
defense behind her including a sliding catch in the top of the second inning by right fielder Lizzy Austin.
Along with inducing contact by the Lady Vikings, Savage was also able to record five strikeouts.
The two teams will meet again on Tuesday at Northgate.
HOT PINK OUT:  The evening was marked by pinkout as survivors of Breast Cancer were honored. Each player represented at least one person affected by the disease.
Denny Bowen, the mother of an ECHS graduate and a current student, threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
The occasion also marked the impending one year anniversary of Bowen being cancer free after her bout with Breast Cancer.

SHARPSBURG-Sophia Vaccariello was 3-for-3 Wednesday with two RBIs and two runs scored to help lead the East Coweta Lady Indians to an 8-0 home win over the Northgate Lady Vikings in a junior varsity contest.
The five inning win improved the Lady Indians' record to 17-1-1 on the season.
East Coweta took the lead in the bottom of the first inning as Payton Wilson led off with a single, stole second and scored when Vaccariello lined a double to center field.
Wilson was 2-for-3 at the plate in the game.

Hayden Chaffin followed with a single to right field and stole second before Gaby Gopie came to the plate and delivered a two-run single that increased the lead to 3-0.
Chaffin was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Indians and scored twice in the game.
The Lady Indians added to the lead in the bottom of the second inning as Keyleigh Gardner and Sydney Stubbs reached on consecutive singles with Gardner coming 
home on the front end of a double steal.
Stubbs eventually gave the Lady Indians a 5-0 advantage when she scored on a single to right center field by Vaccariello.
The score remained 5-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning when Vaccariello reached on a one out single and Chaffin followed with a double.
Camryn Horton recorded another shutout 
Wednesday as she allowed two hits with 12 strikeouts.
Gopie reached on an infield error that scored Vaccariello and Chaffin to give EC a 7-0 lead.
After stealing second, Gopie scored on a double to left field by Maddie Lindon to end the game.
Benefitting from the run support was Camryn Horton who allowed
singles to Makenzie Khaler and Kaelyn Bowen while recording a dozen strikeouts.
In her last three starts, Horton has allowed two hits and recorded 31 strikeouts in 15 innings.
The two teams will meet again Tuesday afternoon at Northgate and the Lady Indians will conclude their season on Thursday at home against Pike County.

Perfection by Savage, stormy hit by Weathers set tone on National Daughters Day for EC

SHARPSBURG-Jada Savage had a perfect Monday evening for East Coweta as the Lady Indians were 9-0 winners over the Jackson Red Devils.
The Lady Indians, who host the Northgate Lady Vikings on Wednesday, improved to 21-2 on the season with the home victory on National Daughters Day.
Through the first four innings, the name of the game pitching as Savage was carving through the Red Devils lineup via the strikeout route including the final 10 batters.

Meanwhile, her opponent in the circle Kylee Lawrence was pitching in and out of trouble as she kept EC baserunners stranded.
The game remained scoreless until the floodgates opened in the bottom of the fifth inning as EC scored all of their runs in the contest.
Addie Joiner and Madisyn Weathers opened the frame by reaching on back-to-back doubles for the first run of the game.
Mallory Lumpkins followed with an RBI single and after a single by Savage, Riley Ratzlaff moved Lumpkins and courtesy runner Jenna Helmly into scoring position.
Maggie Stubbs loaded the bases by reaching on a walk and Kate Miller followed with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Lumpkins.
Madison Duffel would reach on an infield single to reload the bases and Payton Roberson followed by reaching on a walk that scored Helmly.

The home run was her 12th of the season.


For the second time in the inning, Joiner came to the plate and reached base for the fourth time in the game with an RBI single to set the stage for Weathers.
Weathers continued her power surge for EC by drilling the first offering from Lawrence over the fence in left center field for a grand slam that ended the game.
The home run was Weathers' 12th home run of the season.
As for Savage, the sophomore hurler had a solid evening as 42 of the 55 pitches thrown were for strikes and 10 of her 12 strikeouts were of the swinging variety.
She also had a solid evening at the plate by going 3-for-3 in aiding her own cause. 
PINK OUT: The Lady Indians will host the Northgate Lady Vikings on Wednesday beginning at 4:30 with the junior varsity game and the varsity game to follow.
A pink out will be held with ceremonies planned.

Horton fires second straight no-hitter as ECJV defeats McIntosh JV on Senior NIght

SHARPSBURG-For the second straight junior varsity start, Camryn Horton held a team hitless as the East Coweta Lady Indians defeated the McIntosh Lady Chiefs 6-1 Wednesday night.
The Senior Night win improved the Lady Indians' record to 16-1-1 on the season.
The Lady Indians gave Horton a lead in the bottom of the first inning as Payton Wilson reached on an infield error and stole two bases before coming home on a wild pitch.
McKenna Holmes followed by reaching base on a dropped third strike and she also was eventually to score on a wild pitch.
The Lady Chiefs averted a shutout in the top of the second inning when they scored their lone run as they were unable to get to Horton who tossed a no-hitter Monday against Central Carrollton.
The Lady Indians were held scoreless in the second and third innings but were able to extend the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with four runs.
Callie Flury led off frame by reaching on a walk with Hailee Vance following suit with one out in the frame.
Wild pitches moved both into scoring position before the duo came home on a double to left field by Izzy Kelleher.
Sydney Stubbs reached on an infield error that allowed Kelleher to advance to third before coming home on a sacrifice fly by Wilson.
Stubbs would come with the final run of the game on a single to left field by Sophia Vaccariello.
Meanwhile, Horton was almost as solid as her last start as she retired nine of 10 batters in the final three frames after McIntosh scored their run in the second.
Next for the Lady Indians is a trip to Douglasville to face the Alexander Lady Cougars.
 
 

Underclassmen help lead Lady Indians to win on Senior Night

 

SHARPSBURG-Madison Duffel and Madysen Weathers are juniors and Payton Roberson is a sophomore for the East Coweta Lady Indians.
However, the trio combined for six hits, five runs and four RBIs Wednesday night to lead the EC to a 10-0 win over the McIntosh Lady Chiefs on Senior Night.
The Lady Indians improved to 19-1 on the season and will play Friday night in Loganville in games against Northside (Columbus) and River Ridge.
The Lady Indians took the lead in the bottom of the first inning with a pair of runs.
Duffel reached on an infield single and came around to score when Roberson lined a double left field and the latter came home on a throwing error.
Duffel was 2-for-4 in the game with two runs scored.
The Lady Indians added to the lead to 5-0 after one out in the bottom of third inning as winning pitcher Jada Savage and senior Riley Ratzlaff hit back to back solo home runs.
The Lady Indians were held scoreless for the next couple of innings but regained their touch in the bottom of the sixth inning.as they scored five runs to end the game.
Senior Sophia Santiago led off the frame by reaching on an infield error and advanced on a bunt single by senior Maggie Stubbs.
After a flyball to left field, Roberson singled to load the bases while Addie Joiner followed with a two run single to center field.
Roberson was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in the game.
This set the stage for Weathers who drilled a 1-0 offering over the left center field fence for a three run home run that ended the game and was the 11th of the season for the catcher/corner infielder.
Benefitting from the run support was Savage who allowed one hit and recorded nine strikeouts in recording the fourth consecutive shutout for the Lady Indians.
PITCHING DOMINATION: The shutout was not only the fourth in a row but was ninth of the season and the sixth in the last eight.
The Lady Indians have also recorded a streak of 26 consecutive innings. 
Wednesday night's contest also marked the 10th game the Lady Indians have allowed two or less hits in a game with a pair of no-hitters.
SENIOR NIGHT: The four Lady Indians honored on Senior Night were Stubbs, Ratzlaff, Santiago and Lumpkins.
The quartet combined for four hits, three runs and an RBI in the game. 
Their mothers threw out a ceremonial first pitch prior to the coaches meeting.
The Lady Chiefs four seniors were also recognized during the ceremony.

EC narrowly misses sweeping Central for the second straight week

SHARPSBURG-The East Coweta Lady Indians narrowly missed sweeping the Central Carrollton Lady Lions Monday for the second week in a junior varsity doubleheader.
In game one, Camryn Horton pitched a no-hit, 10 strikeout performance in a 9-0 victory for EC, while Central withstood a fifth inning rally to come away with an 8-6 win.   
The Lady Indians took their initial lead in the opener with one out in the bottom of the first inning as McKenna Holmes and Sophia Vaccariello reached base after being hit by a pitch. Consecutive walks to Hayden Chaffin and Addy Howell accounted for the game's first run.

The Lady Indians added to the lead with two outs in the bottom of the second inning as Hallie Vance doubled to left and scored after back to back singles by Keyleigh Gardner and Payton Wilson.
Holmes followed with a double to left field that allowed Gardner and Wilson to come home and give EC a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Lady Indians were able to put the game away as they scored five runs in the frame. 
Maddie Lindon started the inning by reaching first after being hit by a pitch and Vance followed by reaching on a walk.
With one out, Wilson lined a double to left allowing Lindon to score and Vance to advance to third before she would score on a single by Sophia Vaccariello.
Chaffin reached on a bases loaded walk that scored Wilson from third while an RBI single by Howell and a hit by pitch to Summer Wilson closed out the scoring.
Meanwhile, Horton continued to dominate the Lady Lions' batters in the top of the fifth inning as she recorded three of her 10 strikeouts in the frame.
Kylee Rozier opened the bottom of the
fifth inning in game two with a single and 
eventually scored a run.
 
The nightcap began with the Lady Lions scoring a run in the bottom of the first but the Lady Indians tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning as Sydney Stubbs scored on a bloop single by Vaccariello.
Vaccariello was 2-for-2 in the game and 3-for-4 iin the doubleheader with a pair of RBIs.
However, the Lady Lions regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning with three runs and took an 8-1 lead with four runs in the top of the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Kylee Rozier began the frame by
reaching on a single and Catherine Maxwell followed suit with a single as well.
Stubbs reached on a walk to load the bases for Payton Wilson who lined a ground ball off the Central second baseman to score Rozier.
Callie Flury lived up to her last name as she laced a bases clearing double to left field that cut the deficit to 8-6.
However, the rally was stopped as a pair of infield flies ended the contest.
The Lady Indians, now 15-1-1 will host the McIntosh Lady Chiefs on Wednesday prior to the Senior Night festivities.

EC pitching proved dominant in wins over Troup, Eastside

SHARPSBURG-Pitching continued to be dominant for the East  Coweta Lady Indians Friday night as they tossed a pair of shutouts in a three team doubleheader.
In game one, Maggie Stubbs and Camryn Horton combined on a two-hitter as EC defeated the Troup Lady Tigers 10-0 in five innings.
Jada Savage had a dominant outing in the nightcap as she allowed two hits while recording 16 strikeouts in a 7-0 win over the Eastside Eagles.
The head coach of the Eagles is East Coweta alum Heather Gay Wood who played basketball and softball at the school in the late 1990s.    
The opener started with the Lady Indians taking the early lead as Madison Duffel leadoff by reaching on a walk and after stealing second base, advanced to third on a double by Payton Roberson.
Duffel came home from third on a sacrifice fly to left by Addie Joiner while Roberson came home on a single to left by Mallory Lumpkins.
The Lady Indians added to the lead in the bottom of the second inning as Roberson reached first on a one out single and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Madysen Weathers reached on a walk and advanced to third when Lumpkins reached on a double before Savage came to the plate.
Savage would give EC a sizeable 7-0 lead as she drilled 2-2 offering over the right field fence for a three-run home run.
The home run prompted a pitching change by Troup as Camdyn Bassett was replaced in the circle by Kaitlyn Smalley who recorded the final out of the frame.
After a scoreless third inning, the Lady Indians added to the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Joiner ledof with a double and Weathers follow with an RBI single that scored courtesy runner Jenna Helmly.
Rylee Gordy came off the bench to reach on a line drive single to left and scored on a single by Sophia Santiago while Lizzy Austin came home on a sacrifice fly by Maggie Stubbs.
After pitching four innings in which she allowed one hit and recorded a strikeout, Stubbs was replaced in the top of the fifth inning by Horton.
Horton allowed a single in the frame while recording a pair of strikeouts.
Savage set the tone early in the nightcap as she retired the first five batters via the strikeout route.
Meanwhile, the Lady Indians' bats gave her a lead as they scored on a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Mallory Lumpkins was 5-for-5 Friday in the
wins over Troup and Eastside.


Duffel and Roberson led off the frame by reaching on walks and after two outs, Lumpkins lined a double to right center field to score the duo.
Lumpkins was 5-for-5 in the doubleheader with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. 

The Lady Indians added to the lead in the bottom of the second inning as Ratzlaff led of the frame by reaching on a single and moving to second on a groundout before scoring on a single to left by Kate Miller.
Miller advanced to third on a single by Duffel and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Roberson.
With Joiner at the plate, Duffel stole second and would give EC a 5-0 lead as she scored on the former's double to right center field.
Joiner would score the final run of the frame on a bases loaded walk to Savage.
The 6-0 lead was enough for Savage who allowed one baserunner via a walk before a bloop single in the top of the fifth inning ended a possible no-hit bid.
In the bottom if the fifth inning, the Lady Indians scored the final run of the game as Ratzliff  led off with a single and advanced to third due to an outfield error on the hit.
Ratzliff, who was 2-for-3 at the plate, eventually came home on a two-out RBI single by Duffel.
Duffel was 2-for-3 with a walk in the game and scored twice.
Meanwhile, Savage continued to pick up where she left off after her dominating performance at Carrollton on Wednesday by averaging a pair of strikeouts in each inning including the seven of the last eight batters faced.
The Lady Indians, now 16-1 on the season will host the McIntosh Lady Chiefs on Wednesday as Senior Night will be conducted.

Savage records 300th K, Weathers hits 10th hr as EC wins region title

Jada Savage recorded 13 strikeouts Wednesday as she recorded her 300th
strikeout as a member of the East Coweta program.
 

CARROLLTON-Jada Savage hit the lucky 13 in strikeouts while reaching 300 career strikeouts Wednesday evening as the East Coweta Lady Indians defeated the Carrollton Lady Trojans 10-0 to claim the Region 2-7A regular season title.
The Lady Indians, now 15-1 overall and 3-0 in the region will host the region tournament in Sharpsburg beginning on October 9.
After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Indians went to work against Lady Trojan pitcher Maycie Guest with a six-run outburst.
Madysen Weathers led off by reaching on a walk and Mallory Lumpkins followed with a double to left field before Savage aided her own cause as her double to center filed scored courtesy runner Jenna Helmly and Lumpkins.
After one out, Maggie Stubbs followed with a double to center field that scored courtesy runner Riley Ratzlaff and the former came home on a throwing error.
After the second out of the frame, Madison Duffel reached on a single a, stole second and advanced to third after Payton Roberson reached on a single.
Roberson stole second and both runners came home when Addie Joiner lined a single to left field to complete the EC scoring.
The 6-0 advantage was enough for Savage who was recording strikeout after strikeout from the circle and achieved her 300th at East Coweta in the top of the sixth inning when Tai Simmons became the victim.

Meanwhile, the Lady Indians added to their lead in the top of the fourth inning as Stubbs reached on a leadoff single, stole second and after advancing to third on a wild pitch was able to score on a single by Duffel.
Duffel, who recently committed to Georgia Tech, had a 3-for-4 performance at the plate for the Lady Indians while Stubbs was 2-for-3.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Lady Indians finished the scoring of the evening.as Duffel reached on a single and eventually scored as Joiner's second single of the game was mishandled in the outfield.
Weathers provided the big blast at the end as she lined a 2-0 offering over the left field fence for a two-run home run.
Savage finished the contest as she retired the first two Lady Trojans (8-10, 2-1) via swinging strikeouts and recording the third out by inducing a popfly to Gabi Gopie at third.
Next for EC will be a three-team doubleheader as they will host Troup  and Eastside Friday beginning at 4:30.

ECJV overcome early deficits to achieve doubleheadr sweep

CARROLLTON-The junior varsity doubleheader played Monday between the East Coweta Lady Indians and the Central (Carrollton) Lady Lions had similar starts.
The Lady Lions were spotted 4-0 leads before the Lady Indians rallied to win game one 8-6 and gain the sweep after a 14-8 win in the nightcap.
The Lady Lions opened the game by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning and took the 4-0 lead into the top of the third inning.
The top of the third began with Maddie Linden reaching on a line drive single to left field and Sydney Stubbs reaching on a bunt.
Both runners advanced when Payton Wilson grounded out and after winning pitcher McKenna Holmes reached on a walk that loaded the bases.

Sophia Vaccariello reached on an infield error that allowed EC to get on the board as Lindon crossed home plate and a
 bases loaded walk to Hayden Chaffin scored Stubbs from third to cut the deficit to 4-2.
After a force play, Vaccariello came home as a throw from the infield was late and Chaffin came home with the tying run due to confusion in the Central infield.
The Lady Lions scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning to reclaim the lead but the 6-4 advantage was short lived as the Lady Indians scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Stubbs opened the frame with a walk and Wilson followed with a line drive single to left field.

The Lady Indians tied the game at 6-6 when Chaffin singled to center to bring Wilson home while Vaccariello advanced to third.
A groundout by Addy Howell gave EC a 7-6 lead and Callie Flury's second RBI of the game provided them with an insurance run as her single to right center field brought Chaffin plateward.
Holmes retired the first two batters in the bottom of the inning, but the Lady Lions tried to rally as a single and a walk put the tying run on base.
However, Holmes induced a popup and the game came to an end.
Holmes allowed five hits in the win and recorded seven strikeouts.
Kayden Ulrich pitched a complete
game in the second contest of the 
doubkeheader.

Game two had the same scenario
as the opener with Central taking a 4-0 after the first inning, the similarities ended there as EC made two-out magic account for a eight-run second inning.
In between two strikeouts, Izzy Kelleher and Lindon reached on walks while Kylee Rozier reached on an infield error to load the bases.
An infield error scored Kelleher for the first run of the frame and Wilson followed with an RBI single that cut the margin to 4-2.
Flury reached on a walk that scored Lindon and the deficit was 4-3 and brought Vaccariello to the plate.
Vaccariello gave EC a 7-4 lead as she drilled a 1-1 offering over the left field fence for a grand slam that gave her team the lead that never was relinquished.
Howell followed the grand slam with an infield single and scored on a double by Summer Wilson to complete the frame.
The Lady Lions scored a run in the bottom of the second inning to cut the score to 8-5, but the Lady Indians answered with two runs in the top of the third to take a 10-5 lead.
Lindon lined a single to center field to open the frame and scored on a two out double by Keyleigh Gardner who later scored on a single by Payton Wilson.
The Lady Lions came back with a run in the bottom of the third and two in the fourth, but the Lady Indians answered in the top of the fifth with four runs for the final margin.
Rozier and Catherine Maxwell reached on singles while Gardner was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
A bases loaded walk to Flury scored Rozier while Maxwell came home on a wild pitch while singles by Vaccariello and Howell had RBI singles to end the scoring.
Vaccariello was 3-for-7 in the doubleheader, scoring three runs and seven RBIs.
Howell was 2-for-4 in game two with an RBI while Gardner reached base three times and had the hatrick in runs scored for the game.
Kayden Ulrich overcame the struggles of the first inning to thwart any subsequent rallies by the Lady Lions and gain a complete game win.
The Lady Indians are now 14-0-1 on the season and will have a doubleheader rematch next Monday in Sharpsburg.
