Son, Rossi lead EC to freshman win over Wildcats

FAYETTEVILLE-Michael Son had two hits and scored three runs to support the one hit pitching of Jacob Rossi and Josh Sibley in a 9-0 win for the East Coweta Indians over the Whitewater Wildcats in a freshman baseball game played Monday.
The win was the second in as many games for the Indians who opened the season with a 2-0 win over Starr’s Mill last Saturday are scheduled to play at McIntosh in a game against the Chiefs.
After a scoreless first inning, EC took the lead in the top of the second inning as Son reached on an infield error, took second on a sacrifice bunt by Rossi and after moving to third on a passed ball scored on a sacrifice fly by John Monnin.
The score remained 1-0 until the top of the fourth inning when the Indians began to pull away as they scored a pair to assume a 3-0 lead.
With one out, Son singled and after two out singles by Monnin and Andrew Arnold was able to score.
A single by Cooper Ramey and a bases loaded walk to Connor McElroy allowed courtesy runner Ethan McCauley to come home with the second run of the frame and gave Rossi a margin to work with on the mound.
After leaving two runners stranded in the bottom of the first inning, Rossi gave the Indians the quality start needed as he retired 10 batters in a row during his four inning stint.
The Indians managed to put the Wildcats away in the top of the fifth inning as 12 batters went to the plate and six came to account for the final margin.
With one out, Jansen Kenty and Son each flirted with a home run on flyballs hit to right field but had to be content with doubles.
Kenty came home on a a pinch hit single by L.J. Estrada while Son came home on a single to left by Arnold and the lead was 5-0.
A single by Ramey and an error on a sacrifice fly hit by McElroy scored runs while Kenty was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to account for the final run of the game.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Rossi, who recorded six strikeouts and had an assist  was replaced by Josh Sibley who had an efficient inning with two groundouts and a strikeout in between to end the contest.
