Indians pick up Region 2 AAAAAAA win over Lions

ATLANTA-The East Coweta Indians overcame injuries to several players as well the elements to defeat the Westlake Lions 5-2 in a Region 2 AAAAAAA matchup played Monday evening.
The win improved the Indians’ overall record to 10-5 and 5-0 in the region with a matchup against the Wheeler Wildcats in Marietta on Tuesday evening while the Lions fell to 5-7, 1-5.
Kaleb Gardner leads off at second base after recording his first
varsity double in the top of the third inning. Gardner eventually
scored on an infield single by William Kelley.
The game was scoreless through the first two innings, but the Indians changed the score in the top of the third inning as Kaleb Gardner made his varsity debut successful with a line drive double to right field.
Nico Senese reached on a walk and after one out, William Kelley had an infield single that brought Gardner home with his first varsity run.
Senese, who had advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on Kelley’s single, was able to come home on the front end of a double steal as Kelley motored into second.
The Lions tried to rally in the bottom of the frame against winning pitcher J.J. Freed as they loaded the bases with one out.
J.J. Freed pitched the first four innings for
the Indians allowing a run on three hits.
However, Freed recovered and surrendered a sacrifice fly that allowed the Lions to score a run and ended the frame with a flyball to left field.
The Lions had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning as Jabari Whitehead doubled and tried to score on a two out single by Drew Hutchinson to right field.
However, threw home to catcher Ryan Dyal who applied the tag to Whitehead to end the inning.
The Indians added to the lead in the top of the fourth inning as Senese singled, Tony Player walked and Kelley reached on a bunt single.
After the first out of the inning, Dyal was walked on four straight pitches that brought Senese home and after the second out was recorded Player was able to score an unearned run to give EC a 4-1 lead.
Freed was replaced in the bottom of the fifth inning by Quinlan Wiley who surrendered a run in the frame but retired the side in order in an efficient manner to keep the score at 4-2.
The Indians added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning as Kelley reached on an infield error and scored on a two out single by Logan Frady.
Jacob Howell took over in the bottom of the seventh inning and was to get through the order quickly with three strikeouts to record the save.
In four innings, Freed allowed three hits and recorded a strikeout while Wiley allowed two hits and recorded two strikeouts.
Kelley had two hits, two stolen bases, an RBI and scored a run while Senese scored twice in the game.
