Indians defeat Tigers for region sweep, improve record to 16-0 on season

EAST COWETA 11 DOUGLAS COUNTY 0

SHARPSBURG-Cole Antmann and Matthew Meyer combined to allow two hits Wednesday evening as the East Coweta Indians won their 16th game of the season after an 11-0 Region 3-AAAAAA home victory over the Douglas County Tigers.
The five-inning win gave the Indians a series sweep over the Tigers and a 6-0 region record before returning to the field next Monday in a non-region matchup with Northside-Columbus and a three-game region series with Tri-Cities beginning Tuesday.
The win was also the fourth shutout in the last seven games for the Indians' pitching staff.
After Antmann pitched through the top of the first inning unscathed, the Indians gave him a lead in the bottom of the frame as Bryce Gemmel reached on a one-out walk and advanced to third on a single to left by Antmann before coming home on a sacrifice fly by Jon Banks.
A walk to Geremy Walton followed then Meyer lined a double to right field scoring both Antmann and Walton to give the Indians a 3-0 lead.
The Indians had a chance to add to the run total in the inning as Stephan Cruver singled and Blake Lorow was hit by a pitch but the Tigers were able to escape further trouble as they narrowly retired Tim Manning on a groundout.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Indians added as Antmann was hit by a pitch with two outs in the frame, stole second and came home on a single by Banks.
The cushion was enough for Antmann who sailed in the first two innings but struggled in the top of the third before getting out of trouble on a force play that ended the frame.
More runs were scored in the bottom of the third inning as Meyer and Cruver reached on walks before Tigers starting pitcher Tyler Gaines was removed in favor of Payton Myers who retired the first batter on strikes.
However, the Indians still got on the board as Manning had an infield single that scored pinch-runner Austin Bellamy while Meyer scored when Gemmel reached on a force play that resulted in athrowing error and allowed Manning to come home and give EC a 7-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth inning, Meyer took over for Antmann who has been the Indians' closer but did well in a starting role with five strikeouts and getting nine groundouts.
Meyer had an effective two inning stint as he allowed a hit and recorded three strikeouts and induced three groundouts including one that ended the game.
The Indians were able to end the game early as they scored four runs as Manning had an RBI single while the Tigers were guilty of two errors that resulted in three unearned runs coming home.
Manning was 2-for-3 in the game, scored twice and drove home two runs to pace the offense for the Indians and had three assists at second base.
