Addie Andrews allowed a bloop single and a walk in four innings as well as contributing a two-run single in Newnan's 12-0 four inning win over Wheeler in the Region 2-AAAAAAA Tournament. |
SHARPSBURG-The
Newnan Lady Cougars took advantage of infield errors Tuesday with
home runs by Lesley Davis and Ansley Houston to support the pitching
of Addie Andrews as they defeated the Wheeler Lady Wildcats 12-0 in
the first round of the Region 2-AAAAAAA tournament.
The Lady Cougars (15-11) will meet the East Coweta Lady Indians in the winners bracket game on
Wednesday at 6:30 while the Lady Wildcats will face the Westlake Lady
Lions at 4:30.
After Andrews
retired the side in order to start the game, her teammates went to
work after one out in the bottom of the frame.
Hailey Bloom reached
on an error and Danielle Curlee reached on another fielding miscue
which allowed Bloom to advance to third.
Both runners pulled
off a double steal with Bloom coming home for Newnan’s first run of
the contest.
Davis reached on a
walk and Sarah Vallery singled past the second baseman to score
Curlee for another run and Houston ended the scoring for the inning
when she drilled a shot over the right center field fence for a
three-run home run.
After another easy
inning was tossed by Andrews, the Lady Cougars did more damage in the
bottom of the second as Hannah Scarbrough joined the offensive party
with an infield single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Bloom.
Curlee followed with
a RBI triple then Davis followed by drilling her home run over the
center field fence to give the Lady Cougars an 8-0 lead.
After Davis’ home
run, the Lady Cougars added to the lead as Breanna Houston singled
and moved around the bases on a pair of wild pitches. Own cause with
a two-run single
Vallery walked and
advanced to second on an error as Ansley Houston reached first and
Breanna Houston crossed the plate and Andrews aided her own cause
with a two-run single.
Andrews was tagged
out at single but an infield error allowed Darby Keene to reach base
and the final run of the game to score when Scarbrough batted for the
second time in the frame and responded with a run scoring double.
Meanwhile, Andrews
was moving along on the pitching rubber and retired the first eight
batters before allowing a walk in the top of the third inning and a
bloop single in the top of the fourth.
Andrews finished
with eight strikeouts while getting three groundouts and a flyball to
Paige De Poi in right field.
