Another dominating effort by Jaliyah Holmes as she limits Northgate to
a pair of fifth inning singles.
Jaliyah Holmes dominated the Northgate Lady Vikings over five innings as she allowed two hits and recorded four strikouts Thursday as the East Coweta Lady Indians won their 31st consecutive game with a 9-1 victory.
The win improved the Lady Indians 2019 record to 15-0 while the Lady Vikings, who had a second varsity afterward, fell to 14-4 on the season.
Both teams will meet again on MOnday in Sharpsburg.
The Lady Indians took control early as Kylie Ferguson reached on a one out double and Kenadie Coopper single with both scoring on a rwo out single to center by Ashleigh Griffin.
The Lady Vikings cut into the lead in the bottom of the inning as Ashley Kent was hit by a pitch, stole second and moved to third on a flyball before coming home on a wild pitch.
Despite a tough first inning, Northgate starter Olivia Cato recovered to sail through the second allowing only single to Caroline Lively but EC hit her again in the top of the third inning that increased the lead to 4-1.
With one out, Ansley Gunter hit a solo home run and Griffin followed by hitting a single, stole second base and scored on a two our single by Lively.
Lively was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Indians.
After a silent fourth inning, the Lady Indians came back in the top of the fifth inning with five runs to account for the final margin.
After Gunter led off with a walk, a pitching change was made with Griffin coming to the plate.
Griffin would reach on an infield error and Katie Taylor to load the bases for Olivia Cook who would reach on a walk that scored a run as pinch runner Hanna Miller came home.
A double play scored Griffin and Ansley Duffey followed with an RBI single and advanced to second on an error.
A triple by Lilly Agan scored pinch runner Macie Wiggins and in field error scored Agan and allowed Ferguson to reach.
The margin was more than enough for Holmes as she retired 12 in a row after hitting Kent in the first.
The string ended as Fran Lumpp singled and with one out singled but Holmes overcame the situation and the heat by getting Anna Baldwin to hit a line drive to Cook at third who dove to the bag for a double play that ended the game.
