Kelley Lynch fired her second perfect game in two weeks as East Coweta defeated Northgate 8--0. She retired 14 batters by strikeout. |
For the second time
in as many weeks, East Coweta hurler Kelley Lynch was perfect as she
kept the Northgate Lady Vikings off the bases Thursday evening in an
8-0 six inning win that extended their winning streak to 48 games.
The streak for the
Lady Indians, now 12-0, will be challenged Friday at Home Plate in
Peachtree City by two opponents as the Lambert Longhorns (6-7 after
Thursday loss to North Forsyth) and Parkview Panthers (7-7 after
Thursday win over Lakeside) come to the facility.
Meanwhile,
Thursday’s game started scoreless until the Lady Indians sent 10
batters to the plate in the top of the second inning with six coming
home to provide Lynch with a comfortable cushion.
Ansley Gunter and
Katie Taylor reached on consecutive walks to open the frame and
successfully converted a pair of double steal attempts with Gunter
coming home with a head first slide that gave EC it’s first run.
Taylor, who moved to
third on the Gunter steal, scored the second run of the frame on a
one out single by Ashleigh Griffin.
Olivia Cook was
awarded first base on catcher’s interference and Lilly Agan reached
first on a walk that loaded the bases with Carmen Prior to the plate.
Prior hit a ground
ball fielded by Northgate pitcher Madison Lumpp on a tough play and
when she came home, the throw was wild and both Griffin and Cook
scored to give the EC a 4-0 lead as Agan took third on the play.
Agan scored on a
sacrifice fly to center field while Prior completed the scoring in
the frame when she came home on a wild pitch.
The Lady Indians
added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning with two outs as
Agan and Prior reached on a infield singles with both scoring on RBI
singles by Lynch and Kenadie Cooper.
Back to Lynch who
proved to toss another strong outing as she retired eight of the
first nine batters on strikeouts as the only non-strikeout was a
flyball to Taylor in left field.
After a pair of
infield flies to Gunter at first to open the fourth inning, Lynch
went on another streak in which she retired six of the remaining
seven batters via strikeout as Griffin was allowed to field a
groundball at shortstop.
Lynch finished with
14 strikeouts in the contest while offensively, Agan was 2-for-3 with
two runs scored and Cooper was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
