Mason Frady held Westlake hitless Thursday in an 8-0 win that saw him record 13 strikeouts. |
Mason Frady was at
it again Thursday night as the senior righthander dominated the
Westlake Lions with 13 strikeouts and tossing a no-hitter in an 8-0
Region 2-AAAAAAA victory in Sharpsburg.
By virtue of the
win, the Indians improve to 13-3 overall and 5-0 in the region as the
two teams will battle again Friday evening in Fulton County.
Frady started the
game with very little difficulty as he retired the first batter on
strikes, the next on a flyball and after the third batter reached
when hit by a pitch, the inning ended as he recorded another
strikeout.
The Indians gave
Frady all the run support he would need in the bottom of the first
inning as Ryan Dyal was by a pitch, stole two bases and came home on
a two out double by Ethan Darrow.
In the second
inning, Frady breezed through the order and gave his teammates a
chance to add top the lead and that was the case as they took
advantage of an error and a pair of walks that led to a four-run
frame.
Trevor Gaddy was hit
by a pitch and with one out Nate Gick reached on a single but it
appeared that the duo would remain stranded until Dyal came to the
plate and reached on an infield error that brought Gaddy to the
plate.
Emilio Morales
continued his steady hitting with a single that brought Gick and Dyal
home to give EC a 3-0 lead.
Morales was able to
score the final run of the frame when he stole second, advanced to
third on a wild pitch and came home on a throwing error by the
Westlake catcher.
In the top of the
third inning, Frady retired the side in order with only one strikeout
but his Indian teammates were able to get into the dugout quickly and
add to the lead.
With one out,
Cameron Jackson reached on a walk and after the second out Zack Bruce
also reached base on a walk with Dyal coming to the plate.
Dyal, who was denied
a home run on ball that went foul in the second inning, hit a 1-2
offering from Lions’ starter Myles Austin fair and deep as it
cleared the right field fence for a three-run home run and an 8-0
lead.
The large cushion
was gave Frady a margin for error that was not required as he ran a
string of 13 straight batters retired before a walk that started the
top of the sixth inning.
After the walk,
Frady made short work of the Lions as he retired five of six batters
on strikeouts that ended the game.
