EC, Whitewater freshmen split doubleheader

Image result for whitewater wildcatsSHARPSBURG-The Whitewater Wildcats scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat the East Coweta Indians 5-4 in the second game of a freshmen baseball doubleheader played Saturday.
The Indians won the opener 6-4 as several players reached base twice.
In the opener, the Indians took the lead as Jonathan Hudson singled and starting pitcher Natsuki Harvey followed with a double and both eventually scored on consecutive groundouts by Ethan Walker and Tanner Floyd.
The Wildcats scored a run in the top of the third inning as starting pitcher Maddox Mueller walked stole second and moved to third on an infield error before scoring on a singe; by Dylan Morris.
Whitewater took the lead with one out in the top of the fifth inning as Muller, Chris Shimer and Morris had consecutive singles for one run while the other scored on an error.
The Indians responded in the bottom of the fifth inning as Jacob Burgess reached on a one out walk and Myles Dowell was hit by a pitch.
Nolan Shelton walked to load the bases and Bryan Crow gave EC the lead when he hit a two-run single to right field.
The Indians added to the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning as Walker was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on an infield error that allowed Tanner Floyd to reach base on a walk.
An infield error allowed Walker to come home and Floyd was able to give the Indians a 6-3 lead when Burgess hit a sacrifice fly to right.
The Wildcats cut the lead to 6-4 when Mueller tripled and came home on a wild pitch but they were unable to get any closer.
Mueller was the offensive leader for Whitewater in the game with two hits, two walks, three steals and three runs.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Indians took the initial lead as Shelton had a one out single and moved to second when Crow was hit by a pitch before scoring on a two out single by Caleb Cashion.
The Wildcats tied the game in the top of the second inning as Harrison Riley was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a two out single by Wyatt Hand.
The Indians reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning as Walker reached on an infield error and eventually scored with two outs in the frame on an error in the outfield.
In the top of the seventh inning, Whitewater began their rallyas Hand walked, Brett McPeters singled and Mueller walked to load the bases.
An error on a sacrifice fly allowed pinchrunner Jackson Van Meter to score the tying run, then McPeters scored the lead run on a sacrifice fly by Landon Busby.
The Wildcats scored a pair of what would become needed insurance runs as Riley had a two run double.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, EC rallied as Jonathan Hudson singled and after a strikeout Brayden Carey reached on a single.
Austin Bunn singled to left allowing Hudson to score and on the play, the ball was mishandled by the leftfielder and Carey scored.
However, the rally ended as the next two batters were retired to end the game.
