Newnan freshmen defeat EC on fielding mistakes

SHARPSBURG-The Newnan Cougars took advantage of fielding miscues by the East Coweta Indians by scoring three runs in the first and sixth innings to come away with a 6-2 win in a freshman baseball game played Wednesday.
After the first Cougar was retired on a groundout, an infield error allowed Kyle McDonald reached on an infield error and scored the first run of the game after three straight walks.
An error in the outfield allowed winning pitcher Jaxon O'Neal to score from third and the final run of the frame scored on a force play.
The Indians cut into the margin in the bottom of the second inning as Brian Crow and Caleb Cashion reached on consecutive errors and later scored on wild pitches.
Both teams settled down for awhile as O'Neal of Newnan and Ethan Walker of EC had successful third and fourth innings before yielding to relievers in the fifth inning.
The Cougars were able to extend the lead in the top of the sixth inning as Max Wilson reached on a walk and Connor Boylen followed with a double to left.
