KYLIE THE K AT IT AGAIN. Kylie Ferguson tossed in pleasing fashion Monday in a four-hit, seven strikeout performance as East Coweta defeated Newnan 4-0 in junior varsity action. |
SHARPSBURG-For five
full innings, Kylie Ferguson of East Coweta and Blythe Bates of
Newnan left zeroes on the scoreboard in the junior varsity softball
game played between the two teams Monday.
In the bottom of the
sixth that changed as the Lady Indians scored all of their runs and
came away with a 4-0 win over the Lady Cougars.
Each hurler found
their own way to retire the side as Bates got help her defense who
made a number of plays that robbed Lady Indian batters of hits
especially in the outfield.
Bates’ luck
changed in the bottom of the sixth as Ferguson reached first on an
infield error and Kenadie Cooper followed with a double to right
field with Ferguson racing around the bases with the first run of the
game.
Jaliyah Holmes
followed with a bunt single that moved Cooper to third and Olivia
Cook followed with an RBI single to left field that allowed Holmes to
advance to third while Cook advanced to second on a throw to the
plate.
After a flyball to
shallow center field, Madison Lecuona hit a sacrifice fly to right
that allowed Holmes to score and Ansley Duffey followed with a solid
single to left that brought Cook home with the final tally of the
game.
The Lady Cougars had
a chance to rally in the top of the seventh inning as Miranda Alford
led off with a double to right center field.
However, any attempt
for a rally was thwarted quickly as Ferguson induced a pair of popups
and a ground ball back to the pitching rubber to end the game.
In seven innings,
Ferguson allowed four hits and recorded seven strikeouts while Bates
scattered nine hits and recorded a strikeout in defeat.
