Six run first inning, Ferguson's one hit pitching keys season opening win for EC junior varsity

Kylie Ferguson had a one hit, four strikeout performance on the
pitching rubber and had a single in the 12-0 win.
A six-run first inning and the pleasing pitching of Kylie Ferguson gave the East Coweta Lady Indians a 12-0 four-inning win over the Whitewater Lady Wildcats in a junior varsity game played Tuesday in Fayettevile.
The game was the season opener for the two clubs.
In the first inning, the Lady Indians found a number of ways to reach base as Ferguson and Jaliyah Holmes scored on wild pitches while Kenadie Cooper was hit by a pitch andeventually scored on a single by Ansley Gunter.
Katie Taylor and Kaliyah Matthews reached on consecutive walks then scored on a triple by Ashleigh Griffin who scored on a single by Macie Wiggins.
The Lady Indians added a single run in the top of the second as Holmes reached on a one out double, moved to third on a wild pitch before coming home home on a sacrifice fly by Olivia Cook.
In the top of the third inning, the Lady Indians continued to add to the lead as Griffin was hit by a pitch and scored on consecutive one out singles by Ashleigh Campbell and Ferguson while and a ground ball hit to second by Holmes accounted for the second run of the frame and a 9-0 lead.
If Ferguson needed any more run support, she got it in the top of the fourth inning as three more runs came across for the final margin.
Cooper walked to leadoff the frame and scored on a double by Gunter while a two-out triple by Wiggins scored Gunter and Kaliyah Matthews with the final tallies.
Meanwhile, Ferguson overcame two illegal pitch calls by the home plate umpire and a subsequent walk to the batter to put the Lady Wildcats away including 10 in a row.
She finally allowed a hit to a batter as Dylan Bronkhurst reached out and poked a bloop single to right field.
Bronkhurst remained stranded on base as a flyball to Taylor in center field and a ground ball to short ended the contest.
The single by Bronkhurst and the first inning walk were the only baserunners of the game for Whitewater allowed by Ferguson who recorded four strikeouts.
In a scheduling quirk, the two teams will meet again on Friday at 5:30 as part of the junior varsity Georgia Dugout Club Tournament at the Hunter Complex.
-----
NOTE: The varsity version of the Lady Indians will host the Northgate Lady Vikings as part of the GDC Tournament in a 6:00 game on Wednesday in Sharpsburg.
The game will be broadcast online through StreamCity.org and can be heard through the company’s website or on their Facebook page or tunein.com page.
