Savage records 300th K, Weathers hits 10th hr as EC wins region title

Jada Savage recorded 13 strikeouts Wednesday as she recorded her 300th
strikeout as a member of the East Coweta program.
 

CARROLLTON-Jada Savage hit the lucky 13 in strikeouts while reaching 300 career strikeouts Wednesday evening as the East Coweta Lady Indians defeated the Carrollton Lady Trojans 10-0 to claim the Region 2-7A regular season title.
The Lady Indians, now 15-1 overall and 3-0 in the region will host the region tournament in Sharpsburg beginning on October 9.
After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Indians went to work against Lady Trojan pitcher Maycie Guest with a six-run outburst.
Madysen Weathers led off by reaching on a walk and Mallory Lumpkins followed with a double to left field before Savage aided her own cause as her double to center filed scored courtesy runner Jenna Helmly and Lumpkins.
After one out, Maggie Stubbs followed with a double to center field that scored courtesy runner Riley Ratzlaff and the former came home on a throwing error.
After the second out of the frame, Madison Duffel reached on a single a, stole second and advanced to third after Payton Roberson reached on a single.
Roberson stole second and both runners came home when Addie Joiner lined a single to left field to complete the EC scoring.
The 6-0 advantage was enough for Savage who was recording strikeout after strikeout from the circle and achieved her 300th at East Coweta in the top of the sixth inning when Tai Simmons became the victim.

Meanwhile, the Lady Indians added to their lead in the top of the fourth inning as Stubbs reached on a leadoff single, stole second and after advancing to third on a wild pitch was able to score on a single by Duffel.
Duffel, who recently committed to Georgia Tech, had a 3-for-4 performance at the plate for the Lady Indians while Stubbs was 2-for-3.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Lady Indians finished the scoring of the evening.as Duffel reached on a single and eventually scored as Joiner's second single of the game was mishandled in the outfield.
Weathers provided the big blast at the end as she lined a 2-0 offering over the left field fence for a two-run home run.
Savage finished the contest as she retired the first two Lady Trojans (8-10, 2-1) via swinging strikeouts and recording the third out by inducing a popfly to Gabi Gopie at third.
Next for EC will be a three-team doubleheader as they will host Troup  and Eastside Friday beginning at 4:30.
