EC pitching proved dominant in wins over Troup, Eastside

SHARPSBURG-Pitching continued to be dominant for the East  Coweta Lady Indians Friday night as they tossed a pair of shutouts in a three team doubleheader.
In game one, Maggie Stubbs and Camryn Horton combined on a two-hitter as EC defeated the Troup Lady Tigers 10-0 in five innings.
Jada Savage had a dominant outing in the nightcap as she allowed two hits while recording 16 strikeouts in a 7-0 win over the Eastside Eagles.
The head coach of the Eagles is East Coweta alum Heather Gay Wood who played basketball and softball at the school in the late 1990s.    
The opener started with the Lady Indians taking the early lead as Madison Duffel leadoff by reaching on a walk and after stealing second base, advanced to third on a double by Payton Roberson.
Duffel came home from third on a sacrifice fly to left by Addie Joiner while Roberson came home on a single to left by Mallory Lumpkins.
The Lady Indians added to the lead in the bottom of the second inning as Roberson reached first on a one out single and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Madysen Weathers reached on a walk and advanced to third when Lumpkins reached on a double before Savage came to the plate.
Savage would give EC a sizeable 7-0 lead as she drilled 2-2 offering over the right field fence for a three-run home run.
The home run prompted a pitching change by Troup as Camdyn Bassett was replaced in the circle by Kaitlyn Smalley who recorded the final out of the frame.
After a scoreless third inning, the Lady Indians added to the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Joiner ledof with a double and Weathers follow with an RBI single that scored courtesy runner Jenna Helmly.
Rylee Gordy came off the bench to reach on a line drive single to left and scored on a single by Sophia Santiago while Lizzy Austin came home on a sacrifice fly by Maggie Stubbs.
After pitching four innings in which she allowed one hit and recorded a strikeout, Stubbs was replaced in the top of the fifth inning by Horton.
Horton allowed a single in the frame while recording a pair of strikeouts.
Savage set the tone early in the nightcap as she retired the first five batters via the strikeout route.
Meanwhile, the Lady Indians' bats gave her a lead as they scored on a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Mallory Lumpkins was 5-for-5 Friday in the
wins over Troup and Eastside.


Duffel and Roberson led off the frame by reaching on walks and after two outs, Lumpkins lined a double to right center field to score the duo.
Lumpkins was 5-for-5 in the doubleheader with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. 

The Lady Indians added to the lead in the bottom of the second inning as Ratzlaff led of the frame by reaching on a single and moving to second on a groundout before scoring on a single to left by Kate Miller.
Miller advanced to third on a single by Duffel and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Roberson.
With Joiner at the plate, Duffel stole second and would give EC a 5-0 lead as she scored on the former's double to right center field.
Joiner would score the final run of the frame on a bases loaded walk to Savage.
The 6-0 lead was enough for Savage who allowed one baserunner via a walk before a bloop single in the top of the fifth inning ended a possible no-hit bid.
In the bottom if the fifth inning, the Lady Indians scored the final run of the game as Ratzliff  led off with a single and advanced to third due to an outfield error on the hit.
Ratzliff, who was 2-for-3 at the plate, eventually came home on a two-out RBI single by Duffel.
Duffel was 2-for-3 with a walk in the game and scored twice.
Meanwhile, Savage continued to pick up where she left off after her dominating performance at Carrollton on Wednesday by averaging a pair of strikeouts in each inning including the seven of the last eight batters faced.
The Lady Indians, now 16-1 on the season will host the McIntosh Lady Chiefs on Wednesday as Senior Night will be conducted.
