Underclassmen help lead Lady Indians to win on Senior Night

 

SHARPSBURG-Madison Duffel and Madysen Weathers are juniors and Payton Roberson is a sophomore for the East Coweta Lady Indians.
However, the trio combined for six hits, five runs and four RBIs Wednesday night to lead the EC to a 10-0 win over the McIntosh Lady Chiefs on Senior Night.
The Lady Indians improved to 19-1 on the season and will play Friday night in Loganville in games against Northside (Columbus) and River Ridge.
The Lady Indians took the lead in the bottom of the first inning with a pair of runs.
Duffel reached on an infield single and came around to score when Roberson lined a double left field and the latter came home on a throwing error.
Duffel was 2-for-4 in the game with two runs scored.
The Lady Indians added to the lead to 5-0 after one out in the bottom of third inning as winning pitcher Jada Savage and senior Riley Ratzlaff hit back to back solo home runs.
The Lady Indians were held scoreless for the next couple of innings but regained their touch in the bottom of the sixth inning.as they scored five runs to end the game.
Senior Sophia Santiago led off the frame by reaching on an infield error and advanced on a bunt single by senior Maggie Stubbs.
After a flyball to left field, Roberson singled to load the bases while Addie Joiner followed with a two run single to center field.
Roberson was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in the game.
This set the stage for Weathers who drilled a 1-0 offering over the left center field fence for a three run home run that ended the game and was the 11th of the season for the catcher/corner infielder.
Benefitting from the run support was Savage who allowed one hit and recorded nine strikeouts in recording the fourth consecutive shutout for the Lady Indians.
PITCHING DOMINATION: The shutout was not only the fourth in a row but was ninth of the season and the sixth in the last eight.
The Lady Indians have also recorded a streak of 26 consecutive innings. 
Wednesday night's contest also marked the 10th game the Lady Indians have allowed two or less hits in a game with a pair of no-hitters.
SENIOR NIGHT: The four Lady Indians honored on Senior Night were Stubbs, Ratzlaff, Santiago and Lumpkins.
The quartet combined for four hits, three runs and an RBI in the game. 
Their mothers threw out a ceremonial first pitch prior to the coaches meeting.
The Lady Chiefs four seniors were also recognized during the ceremony.
