SHARPSBURG-Olivia Cook allowed on hit while four player collected two hits each at the plate Monday night to lead the East Coweta Lady Indians to an 8-0 victory over the Whitewater Lady Wildcats in a junior varsity softball contest.
The game was called with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning under the mercy rule as the Lady Indians improved to 3-0 in the young season.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the second inning when Ansley Duffey led off with a single to left field, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ashleigh Campbell and eventually scored the first run of the night on a single by Ashleigh Griffin.
The Lady Indians added to the lead in the bottom of the third inning as Ferguson, Wiggins and Cook reached on consecutive singles with Ferguson scoring on a sacrifice fly to center field by Duffey.
Campbell followed with a groundout to second base that scored Wiggins from third and the final run of the frame as Cook scored as Kenadie Cooper reached on an infield error.
The run support was more than enough for Cook who allowed a third inning single to Kyra Cheney along with four walks as the only damage while recording nine strikeouts and not permittiing a ball to be hit into the outfield as two groundouts, a pair of popups and a double play kept the Lady Wildcats off the board.
The Lady Indians were not done scoring as Mollie Peacock led off the bottom of the fourth inning by reaching first on an infield error and advanced to second on a one out bunt single by Ferguson.
Wiggins followed with a double that scored Peacock and advanced Ferguson to third base before she and Wiggins scored on a two out double by Duffey who had three RBIs in the game.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lady Indians closed out the contest as Cooper reached on a single, stole second and advanced to third on a groundout before coming home with the eighth run of the game on a line drive single by Eliza Kuhne.
