SHARPSBURG-Kelley
Lynch retired 11 of 13 batters by strikeout Wednesday night and aided
her cause with a bases clearing double while Ashlynn Gunter had a
home run to lead the East Coweta Indians to a 12-0 victory over the
Northside Lady Eagles in the first game of the Georgia Dugout Club
Tournament.
The game was called
in the bottom of the fourth inning under the mercy rule as the Lady
Indians improved to 3-0.
After Lynch breezed
through the top of the first inning with two strikeouts and a popfly,
which was the only non-strikeout of the game, the Lady Indians were
able to take advantage of a fielding error and score five runs in the
frame.
With one out,
Lindsay Warren reached on a walk, stole second and came home when a
throw got away from the third baseman.
Rachel Vaughn and
Gunter came home to give EC a 3-0 lead and the scoring concluded in
the frame when Carmen Prior had a two run single.
In the bottom of the
second inning, the Lady Innings added to the lead as Warren walked,
Lynch singled and after one out, Gunter drilled a pitch over the left
field fence for a three-run home run and the lead was a solid 8-0.
After a scoreless
third inning, the Lady Indians ended the game with four runs in the
bottom of the fourth inning.
Kris Odum led off
with a walk and after Madison Lecouna singled, Prior and Olivia Davis
had consecutive walks to bring Odum plateward.
After an infield
fly, Lynch drilled a shot into right center field and that resulted
in a double and all three runners coming home to end the game.
Lynch was 2-for-4 at
the plate while while Gunter and Prior reached base three times each.
The Lady Indians
will continue play in the GDC Tournament Friday night at Hunter
Complex when they will face the Effingham County Lady Rebels.
