Lady Indians open region play with 10-0 win over Westlake

ATLANTA-Rachel Vaughn aided her own cause as the junior tossed three shutout innings and hit a three-run home run as the East Coweta Lady Indians defeated the Westlake Lady Lions 10-0 in a Region 2-AAAAAAA softball game played Tuesday evening.
The game was the region opener for both and was called after five innings as the Lady Indians improved to 7-1 on the season.
The game was scoreless after the first inning, but the Lady Indians got on the board in the top of the second inning as Ashlynn Gunter drilled a shot over the left field fence for a solo home run.
In the top of the third inning, EC added to the lead as Lindsay Warren trached on a one out walk and after moving to third on a single by Carmen Prior, came home on a two out single by Kelley Lynch.
Vaughn came to the plate next and gave the Lady Indians a 5-0 lead as the junior drilled a pitch over the center field fence for her three-run home run.
After her stint on the mound, Vaughn was relieved by Lynch who allowed one baserunner in a two-inning stint that saw five Westlake batters retired via strikeout.
The Lady Indians added to the lead in the top of the fifth inning as Prior and Olivia Davis reached singles with the former moving to third.
Lynch hit a sacrifice fly that scored Prior and Vaughn struck again at the plate as she caught the Lady Lions infield napping and laid down a sacrifice bunt that scored from Davis from third.
Gunter followed with a single and Aniston Wright reached on a walk before Hanna Miller had an RBI single to left field and three wild pitches would eventually score Wright and Miller with the final runs of the game.
A gauntlet of games this week will continue for EC  on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 as they will travel to Fayetteville to face the Starr's Mill Lady Panthers and will conclude the week on Thursday with a trip to Franklin to face Heard County.
