Six runs in third keys EC win over Spalding in varsity softball.

SHARPSBURG-A number of players contributed to a six-run third inning and a four-run fourth Tuesday night as the East Coweta Lady Indians defeated the Spalding Lady Jaguars 11-2 in a varsity softball game played between the two.
The game was called in the middle of the fifth inning under the mercy rule as the Lady Indians improved to 2-0 in the young season.
Spalding took the initial lead in the game with two runs in the top of the second inning off winning pitcher Aniston Wright before EC began to come back and eventually assume control.
The Lady Indians cut the margin to 2-1 as Ashlyn Gunter led off the bottom of the second with a double and scored with two outs in the frame when AJ Estrada reached on an infield error.
In the bottom of the third inning, Lindsay “LuLu” Warren led off by getting hit by a pitch, stole second and moved to third when Kelley Lynch grounded before scoring the tying run on a single to center by Rachel Vaughn.
Gunter followed with a single and both scored on a double by Wright to give the Lady Indians a 4-2 lead then Hanna Miller and Estrada followed with singles that scored courtesy runner Kris Odum.
A single by Olivia Davis scored Miller and a throwing error scored courtesy runner Carmen Prior to give the home team a 7-2 cushion.
After three innings on the pitching rubber, Wright was replaced by Vaughn who hit a batter but recorded three strikeouts in the top of the fourth inning.
In three innings, Wright allowed one hit and recorded three strikeouts.
The bottom of the fourth started well for EC as Vaughn led off with a double and Gunter reached base on an error and with Odum running for the former, Wright grounded out to third and both runners advanced.
Miller gave the Lady Indians a 9-2 lead as she just missed a home run and had to settle with a two-run double.
A groundout advanced Miller to third base and Caison Byars followed with the highlight of the contest as she drilled a 3-1 offering over the left field fence for a two-run home run and the game's final tallies.
The game came to an end in the top of the fifth inning as Vaughn induced a groundout and retired the next two on strikeouts.
Davis, Gunter, Vaughn and Miller each had two hits with Byars and Miller each recording two RBIs in the win.

The Lady Indians will return to play Wednesday at 5:30 as they will host Northside-Warner Robins as part of the Georgia Dugout Club Tournament which will run through Saturday.
