Eight run second inning leads EC to varsity win over McIntosh

SHARPSBURG-Several players had two hits Monday night to lead the East Coweta Lady Indians to a 12-1 win over the McIntosh Lady Chiefs in a varsity softball game that was called after five innings.
After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Indians broke the tie as 12 batters went to the plate and eight came home.
Ashlynn Gunter led off with a single and scored the first run of the game on a double by Aniston Wright who scored on a line drive double by Hanna Miller.
A single by Caison Byars scored Miller and after a single by Carmen Prior was sandwiched between two outs, Kelley Lynch lined a two-run double and the lead was 5-0.
Staring pitcher Rachel Vaughn had a run scoring double before Gunter's second single of the inning followed and after Wright was hit by a pitch, Miller closed the scoring of the inning with a two-run single.
Lady Indians head coach Franklin Deloach made wholesale changes in the top of the third inning including on the pitching rubber where Wright took over for Vaughn.

However, only one run scored as Wright retired the next two batters to end the threat.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Lady Indians had a chance to pad the 8-1 cushion as they had runners on base, but they were unable to bring them home.
They were able to go on a scoring binge in the bottom of the fourth inning as they scored four more runs to add to the advantage.
With one out, Wright reached on a double and Miller was hit by a pitch then both moved a base on a wild pitch and Kris Odum loaded the bases after reaching on a walk.
Lindsay Warren gave the Lady Indians a 10-1 lead as she maneuvered a pitch into right center field for a two-run single.
Prior, who was celebrating her 15th birthday, followed with an RBI single and Madison Lecouna ended the scoring with a sacrifice fly to right.
Wright made quick work of the Lady Chiefs in the top of the fifth inning as she retired the side in order.
Vaughn and Wright combined to allow five hits and recorded three strikeouts.
The Lady Indians improved to 6-1 on the season as they prepare to travel to Atlanta to face the Westlake Lady Lions in a Region 2-AAAAAAA matchup.

After the game at Westlake, EC will travel to Fayetteville to face Starr's Mill on Wednesday and to Franklin to face Heard County in non-region contests.
