Whitewater scores three in the seventh to defeat Newnan

SHARPSBURG-Ruth Jones hit a single to right field with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Kinsey Sords from third and give the Whitewater Lady Wildcats a 7-6 win over the Newnan Lady Cougars in a Georgia Dugout Club Tournament game played at East Coweta.
Trailing 6-4, Lauren King opened the frame for the Lady Wildcats on second base under the international tie-breaker rule and after Jade Clemons reached on a walk, Sords singled allowing King to score and cut the margin to 6-5.
After Carly Grove reached first base, Bailey Vessell hit a sacrifice fly to right field allowing Jade Clemons to come home with the tying run.
Jordan Roy reached on a fielders choice as Grove reached second on an attempted force play before Jones hit the gamewinner.
The Lady Cougars took the first lead of the game when Ansley Houston reached first on a walk and advanced to second on an errant throw in the infield before going to third on a groundout and coming home on a single by Addie Andrews.
The Lady Wildcats came back in the bottom of the inning after two outs as Alexis Larrow walked, Vessell singled and Roy walked to load the bases.
Jones followed to give Whitewater a 2-1 lead when she had a double that scored Larrow and Vessell.
Newnan came back to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of third inning as Sarah Vallery scored on a two out single by Leslie Davis.
The Lady Cougars took a 3-2 lead in the top of fifth inning as Hailey Bloom led off with a double and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Davis.
However, the Lady Wildcats came back in the bottom of the inning as Katelyn Perry doubled, winning pitcher Sarah Middleton walked and Clemons reached on a one out walk.
A throw home from the infield was errant with Perry and Middleton coming home to give Whitewater a 4-3 lead.
Middleton appeared to have the game won as she faced a two out situation in the top of the sixth inning and the 90 minute time frame reached despite Andrews on second after a double but an infield error allowed her to score and the game was tied at 4-4.
Newnan took the lead in the top of the seventh inning as Bloom was on second to open the frame under the aforementioned tiebreaker rule and Vallery followed with a single advancing Bloom to third who eventually scored the lead run on sacfrifice fly to right by Houston.
Vallery would steal second during Houston's at bat and take third on the sacrifice fly and score to give the Lady Cougars a 6-4 lead after an infield error.
Both teams will continue tournament play on Friday as Newnan will host Columbus (5:00) and Thomas County Central (8:15) on the Lady Cougars field while Whitewater will face Effingham County at 7:30 at the Hunter Complex.
