SHARPSBURG-A single by Kenadie
Cooper allowed Kylie Ferguson to score the winning run in the bottom
of the eighth inning to give the East Coweta Lady Indians a 3-2 win
over the Alexander Lady Cougars in the junior varsity game played
Monday.
The Lady Indians
improve to 12-3-1 as they prepare to close their schedule Wednesday
evening against the Northgate Lady Vikings.
Trailing 2-1, Katie
Taylor opened the frame on second base under the International Tie
Breaker rule and moved to third on an infield single by Ferguson.
Ferguson stole
second and with one out, Olivia Cook singled to allow Taylor to come
home to tie the game at 2-2.
Cooper became the
hero of the game as she hit the first pitch past the Alexander center
fielder and Ferguson came home with the final run of the game.
Ansley Duffey hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning of the game and had a fourth inning single. |
The Lady Indians
took the initial lead in the bottom of the second inning as Ansley
Duffey drilled a 1-1 offering over the left field fence for a solo
home run that stood until the top of the sixth inning as the Lady
Cougars tied the contest with two outs.
In the bottom of the
seventh inning, the Lady Indians had a chance to score the winning
run as Duffey reached on an infield error and took second on a
sacrifice bunt by Ashleigh Campbell and moved to third on a groundout
but was unable to get any further as Taylor grounded out to send the
game into extra frames.
Alexander took the
lead in the top of the eighth inning on a double and after an error
and a walk the bases were loaded with nobody out.
However, the Lady
Indians recovered as a line drive was hit to Campbell at second who
tossed the ball to Cook at first for a double play and the inning
ended on a ground ball back to Ferguson on the pitching rubber.
