FAYETTEVILLE-Rachel
Vaughn was at it again Thursday with four shutout innings on the
pitching rubber and 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIS as the East
Coweta Lady Indians defeated the Starr's Mill Lady Panthers 10-2 in a
five-inning varsity softball contest.
The Lady Indians
improved to 11-2 as they prepare to travel to Smyrna on Tuesday for a
Region 2-AAAAAAA contest with Campbell.
East Coweta took the
lead in the top of the first inning as Lindsay “Lulu” Warren
reached on a one out single and eventually came home on a single by
Aniston Wright.
In the top of the
second inning, the Lady Indians added to the run total as Caroline
Lively walked and after a sacrifice by Krys Odum, courtesy runner
Caison Byars scored on a single by Olivia Davis.
Davis, who would go
3-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs, came home on a two-out single by
Vaughn and after a single by Wright loaded the base, Ashlynn Gunter
walked to score Kelley Lynch from third base to give EC a 5-0 lead
and force a pitching change by Starr's Mill.
The Lady Indians
took an 8-0 lead in the top of the third inning as Lively found a
painful way to reach base as she was hit by a pitch.
A bunt single by
Odum allowed courtesy runner Byars to advance to second and after
both advanced on a bunt single by Davis, a wild pitch allowed Byars
to score.
A walk to Lynch and
another run scoring single by Vaughn gave the Lady Indians a 6-0 lead
and after Wright was hit by a pitch, Gunter had a two-run double and
the lead was 8-0.
In the top of the
fourth inning, Lively was hit for the second of three at bats in the
game and awarded first base for Davis who smashed an RBI double to
left center field and she would score the final EC run as Vaughn had
a two out single.
Meanwhile, Vaughn
had a solid outing on the pitching rubber as she allowed three hits
in four innings as she received support from her infielders with
Wright recording seven putouts before she took for Vaughn in the
bottom of the fifth inning.
A pair of errors
would lead to a pair of unearned runs and broke a streak of 21
scoreless innings by the Lady Indians staff.
The Lady Indians
last saw the opponent score when Heard County scored twice in the
bottom of the sixth inning last Thursday in Franklin.
Other offensive
contributors saw Wright record two singles and reach twice from the
hit by pitch variety while Lynch had two hits and two walks.
