Northgate's Sarah Turi had a two-run double in the top
of the fifth inning after a run scoring single earlier.
SHARPSBURG-Sarah Turi went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs including the go ahead run Wednesday evening as the Northgate Lady Vikings defeated the East Coweta Lady Indians 7-5 in a junior varsity softball game.
The game was the season finale for the Lady Indians who finished with a 13-4-1 record this year.
East Coweta took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when Kylie Ferguson led off with a bunt single and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Macie Wiggins.
After the second out of the inning, Kenadie Cooper singled and Ferguson was caught in a rundown before scoring on a throwing error.
The Lady Vikings took the lead in the top of the third inning when Audrey Baxter and Madison Edwards reached on consecutive one out singles off starter Aniston Wright and scored on a single by Turi and a groundout by Brandon respectively.
In the bottom of the frame, the Lady Indians tied the game at 2-2 as Olivia Cook reached on a one out walk while Cooper and Caison Byars reached on one out singles before Ansley Duffey hit a sacrifice fly to left field.
Sasha Moraweitz pitched the first four innings for Northgate
Wednesday evening.
Northgate took the lead with one out in the top of the fifth inning as Baxter reached on an infield error and moved to second on a wild pitch before moving to third on a single by Edwards who would steal second to put both runners into scoring position.
Both would score when Turi hit an 0-1 offering from Aniston Wright for a two-run double that gave the visitors a 4-2 lead and after a pitching change and a groundout, Turi would score from third on a single by Natalie Heath.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, EC tried to chip away the 5-2 deficit as Ashleigh Campbell reached on a single to open the frame.
Eliza Kuhne entered the game as a pinch runner and moved into scoring position with a stolen base then came home on a one out double by Katie Taylor.
Kenadie Cooper went 3-for-4 at the plate for EC and had three
putouts in right field
The Lady Indians were unable to cut into the deficit any further as Lady Viking pitcher Alissa Bolinger induced a groundout and a strikeout to end the threat.
The Lady Vikings took a 7-3 lead in the top of the seventh inning as Gracie Storey doubled, Baxter returned to the game and stole second before moving to third on a groundout before scoring on a double by Maddie Maxey who scored on a double by Brandon.
Bolinger, who took over for Moraweitz in the fifth inning, found the bottom of the seventh inning somewhat tight as the Lady Indians tried to rally.
Cook, Cooper and Byars had consecutive singles that accounted for a run and after a groundout another run came home as Campbell hit a sacrifice fly to left field.
Cooper was 3-for-4 with a run scored while Byars was 2-for-4 in the game for the Lady Indians.
Ashleigh Griffin was awarded first on catcher’s interference and Taylor reached on a walk to load the bases but the rally came to an end as Ferguson hit a ground ball back to Bolinger who threw to first to end the game.
