SHARPSBURG-Sarah
Turi went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs including the go ahead
run Wednesday evening as the Northgate Lady Vikings defeated the East
Coweta Lady Indians 7-5 in a junior varsity softball game.
The game was the
season finale for the Lady Indians who finished with a 13-4-1 record
this year.
East Coweta took the
lead in the bottom of the first inning when Kylie Ferguson led off
with a bunt single and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Macie
Wiggins.
After the second out
of the inning, Kenadie Cooper singled and Ferguson was caught in a
rundown before scoring on a throwing error.
The Lady Vikings
took the lead in the top of the third inning when Audrey Baxter and
Madison Edwards reached on consecutive one out singles off starter Aniston Wright and scored on
a single by Turi and a groundout by Brandon respectively.
In the bottom of the
frame, the Lady Indians tied the game at 2-2 as Olivia Cook reached
on a one out walk while Cooper and Caison Byars reached on one out
singles before Ansley Duffey hit a sacrifice fly to left field.

Northgate took the
lead with one out in the top of the fifth inning as Baxter reached on
an infield error and moved to second on a wild pitch before moving to
third on a single by Edwards who would steal second to put both
runners into scoring position.
Both would score
when Turi hit an 0-1 offering from Aniston Wright for a two-run
double that gave the visitors a 4-2 lead and after a pitching change
and a groundout, Turi would score from third on a single by Natalie
Heath.
In the bottom of the
sixth inning, EC tried to chip away the 5-2 deficit as Ashleigh
Campbell reached on a single to open the frame.
Eliza Kuhne entered
the game as a pinch runner and moved into scoring position with a
stolen base then came home on a one out double by Katie Taylor.

The Lady Indians
were unable to cut into the deficit any further as Lady Viking
pitcher Alissa Bolinger induced a groundout and a strikeout to end
the threat.
The Lady Vikings
took a 7-3 lead in the top of the seventh inning as Gracie Storey
doubled, Baxter returned to the game and stole second before moving to
third on a groundout before scoring on a double by Maddie Maxey who
scored on a double by Brandon.
Bolinger, who took
over for Moraweitz in the fifth inning, found the
bottom of the seventh inning somewhat tight as the Lady Indians tried
to rally.
Cook, Cooper and
Byars had consecutive singles that accounted for a run and after a
groundout another run came home as Campbell hit a sacrifice fly to
left field.
Cooper was 3-for-4 with a run scored while Byars was 2-for-4 in the game for the Lady Indians.
Ashleigh Griffin was
awarded first on catcher’s interference and Taylor reached on a
walk to load the bases but the rally came to an end as Ferguson hit a
ground ball back to Bolinger who threw to first to end the game.
