SHARPSBURG-The East
Coweta Lady Indians got a measure of revenge Tuesday evening as they
took care of miscues in the field by the Newnan Lady Cougars to come
away with an 11-2 victory in a junior varsity softball matchup
between the rivals.
The Lady Indians,
who committed five errors in a 6-4 loss last week on the Lady cougars
home field, improved to 9-3-1 on the season after the five inning
victory.
Newnan took the
initial lead of the game in the top of the first inning as KK Madrey
reached on a leadoff single, advanced to second as Morgan Bruce was
hit by a pitch and a sacrifice bunt advanced the two into scoring
position.
KK Madrey had two hits, scored a run and had an RBI for Newnan in the game. |
Starting pitcher
Blythe Bates was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Jenna Lyons
followed a groundout to shortstop which allowed Madrey to score from
third.
In the bottom of the
first, East Coweta came back as Kyle Ferguson reached on a leadoff
walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Macie Wiggins and to
third on a single by starting pitcher Olivia Cook.
Kenadie Cooper
followed by reaching on an infield error that allowed Ferguson to
score and tie the game at 1-1.
A sacrifice fly by
Caison Byars allowed Cook to score the go ahead run while the former
reached base when the ball was dropped.
A double to right
center by Ansley Duffey allowed Cooper and Byars to come home and
give the Lady Indians a 4-1 lead.
In the bottom of the
third inning, the Lady Indians added to the lead as Wiggins and Cook
reached on walks while an infield error allowed Cooper to reach and
load the bases for Byars who lined a two-run single and advanced to
Cooper to third.
Duffey followed with
a two-run double and after a pitching change and two outs Katie
Taylor lined a two-run double to left field.
The final run of the
frame came as Taylor scored after the Lady Cougars committed an
infield error.
One more came home
for the Lady Indians in the bottom of the fourth inning as Byars
reached on a one out single, stole second, advanced to third on a
wild pitch and came home when the throw to third was errant.
The 11-1 margin was
enough for Cook as she allowed three hits over five innings on the
rubber recording four strikeouts.
She allowed Newnan a
run in the top of the fifth inning as Maranda Alford singled and
moved around the pitches on a pair of wild pitches before scoring
when Madrey grounded out to first.
