The Northgate Lady
Indians scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the
East Coweta Lady Indians responded with the same amount in the top of
the seventh inning to come away with a 9-8 victory in a junior
varsity softball contest played Wednesday.
By virtue of the
come-from-behind victory, the Lady Indians improve to 8-2-1 as they
prepare to face the Newnan Lady Cougars on the road Thursday
afternoon.
Kylie Ferguson scored two runs in the 9-8 win over Northgate. |
The Lady Indians
took the first lead of the game in the top of the first inning as
Kylie Ferguson reached on a leadoff double to left field, advanced to
third on a single by Madison Lecouna before coming home on a wild
pitch.
The Lady Vikings
tied the game in the bottom of the second inning as Grace Story led
off with a walk and with one out eventually scored on a throwing
error in the infield.
However, the Lady
Indians reclaimed the lead in the top of the third inning as Katie
Taylor reached on a leadoff walk and advanced around the bases before
coming home from third on a sacrifice fly by Olivia Cook.
In a game that
resembled a seesaw, the Lady Vikings tied the game again as starting
pitcher Alissa Bolinger led off the bottom of the fourth by reaching
on an infield error and a courtesy runner came home on a two-out
triple by Hope Futral.
Once again the Lady
Indians took the lead again as Madison Lecouna hit a ball to right in
the top of the fifth inning and the shortstop ran around the bases
and had enough energy to come away with an inside the park home run.
The celebration of
the Lecouna feat would be short lived as the Lady Vikings came back
as 10 batters went to the plate in their six run frame.
Bolinger led off
with a triple and with one out Alexis Brandon reached on a walk and
Futral followed with a single to load the bases and Madison Maxey
followed with a single that brought Bolinger home with the tying run.
A groundout to first
brought Brandon home with the go ahead run and the inning continued
as Jernigan walked and Audrey Baxter gave Northgate a 7-3 lead with a
triple and latter scored as Madison Edwards singled to left field.
In the top of the
seventh, EC had their rally as Taylor led off with a single and
advanced when Ferguson reached on an infield error.
Lecouna singled to
load the bases for Cook who had bases clearing double to cut the
margin to 8-6 and she was able to take third on a throw from the
outfield to the plate.
After an infield
fly, Cook was able to score from third on a single from Kenadie
Cooper who came home with the tying run on a triple by Byars.
In one of the more
unusual moves in softball Ashleigh Campbell hit a ball of Northgate
second baseman Madison Edwards and the ball rolled to first baseman
Sarah Turi who picked up the ball and tagged the bag to nail
Campbell.
However, Byars was
able to come home from third with the go ahead run for EC and
Ferguson was able to retire the side in order in the bottom of the
seventh to end the game.
