Trio leads EC to win over Starr's Mill in JV game

FAYETTEVILLE-Kenadie Cooper, Caison Byars and Olivia Cook each had two hits and combined for eight RBIs as well as scoring four runs Thursday to lead the East Coweta Lady Indians to a 12-8 win over the Starr's Mill Lady Panthers in a junior varsity softball matchup.
The win improved the Lady Indians' record to 7-2-1 on the season with games next week at Northgate and Newnan.
The Lady Indians took the lead in the top of the first inning as Kylie Ferguson and Madison Lecouna reached on walks and after two outs, both scored on a triple to right center field by Cooper.
Cooper gave EC a 3-0 lead when she game on a triple by Byars.

Cook pitched four innings and was 2-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs.
The Lady Indians added to the lead with two outs in the top of the second inning as Macie Wiggins and Ferguson singled and Lecouna walked to load the bases before Cook followed with a two run double.
The Lady Panthers scored a run in the bottom of the frame, but the Lady Indians responded with a run in the top of the third inning as Cooper singled, sto'le second and third then scored when the throw on the latter stolen base went into left field.
In the bottom of the inning, the margin was cut to 6-2 but the Lady Indians came back in the top of the fourth inning as Lecouna and with one out, Starr's Mill committed two errors and Byars made them pay with a two-run double and another error allowed her to come plateward.
A 10-2 lead looked comfortable for the Lady Indians until the Lady Panthers came to bat in the bottom of the fourth with three runs that cut the margin to 10-5.
The margin grew closer in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Lady Panthers scored three times as the Lady Indians committed a pair of miscues in the field.
However, the Lady Indians managed to get a pair of runs back in the top of the seventh inning as Katie Taylor led off the frame with a single and moved to second on a groundout and scored on a double by Wiggins and the latter came home on a double by Cook for the final margin

Cook pitched the first four innings of the game before she was relieved by Ferguson who retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh.
