SHARPSBURG-A
seven-run second inning as well as overcoming a third inning rally
gave the East Coweta Lady Indians a 13-5 win over the Union Grove
Lady Wolverines in five inning junior varsity matchup played
Wednesday afternoon.
The victory improved
the Lady Indians record to 10-3-1 on the season.
The Lady Wolverines
took the early lead in the top of the second inning with a single
run, but the Lady Indians went to work with two outs in the frame.
After some initial
struggles on the bases, the Lady Indians tied the game as Katie
Taylor scored the tying run on an infield error that allowed Macie
Ferguson to reach first.
RBI singles by
Olivia Cook and Kenadie Cooper gave EC a 3-1 lead and after a walk to
Caison Byars, an infield error allowed Cook and Cooper to score while
a single by Ashleigh Griffin would conclude the scoring in the frame
with a two-run single.
The 7-1 lead dropped
in the top of the third inning as four of the first six batters in
the frame for UG reached base with all four scoring to bring the
score to 7-5.
However, the Lady
Indians would respond in the bottom of the inning as Taylor reached
on a leadoff walk and stole second before eventually scoring on a one
out single by Cook.
In the bottom of the
fourth inning, the Lady Indians added to the lead as Ansley Duffey
led off with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Griffin three
walks in a row allowed Ashleigh Campbell to come home and the lead
was 10-5 going into the fifth inning.
Griffin recorded
three RBIs in the game.
The Lady Wolverines
had a chance at a two out rally in the top of the frame as they
recorded a pair of singles but Lady Indians starting pitcher Kylie
Ferguson induced a groundball back to the pitching rubber for the
third out.
In the bottom of the
inning, the Lady Indians would end the contest as Cooper doubled and
after the first out of the inning Duffey drilled a pitch over the
left center field fence to give EC a 12-5 lead.
Duffey was 2-for-3
at the plate with two RBIs and three runs scored while Cooper was
also 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
After a single By
Campbell followed by successive walks to Griffin and pinch Kaylie
Crammar, Ferguson would take matters into her hands with a single
that scored Campbell and end the game under the mercy rule.
The junior varsity
Lady Indians will play again next Wednesday when they travel to
Northgate to face a Lady Viking squad that saw an 8-2 lead become a
9-8 loss to the Lady Indians last Wednesday.
